Peer Interview in the morning.....any advice?

Tomorrow morning I have a peer interview for a busy Pediatric practice. I focused on Pediatric internships while in school as well as some pediatric training at my last position as a Public Health Nurse. I was told that they expect their RNs to do their own venipuncture. I have never done it :( past jobs had lab staff so it wasnt a requirement. I did mention to the manager that this is something that I am very interested in learning.

Should I be honest in the interview tomorrow about the fact that I want a place to work that is going to welcome my "learning" with open arms. I am still considered a "new nurse" and have dealt with other nurses calling me "stupid", one even asked "if I had gone to nursing school?" when I simply asked a question about something I didn't understand at a previous job. I have dealt with some very demeaning RNs and a few physicians. I want to learn and succeed without feeling dumb.

What are good questions for me to ask in the peer interview or do you have any advice for me? Thanks!!

Mostly the peer interview is to see if you would be a good fit with the other staff. If they like you (and we all know you have to be genuine with people because we can almost always feel fakery...and if they don't like you at the interview you don't want to work c them anyway), they'll be OK with teaching you new things you need for their practice but you haven't been in a position to learn before.

Welcoming new learning opportunities is a very endearing feature in a new hire. :)

Everything this morning went very well! I interviewed with 3 nurses and we seemed to get along great! One even lived in my neighborhood. They told me they openly accept new nurses with open arms, because they can "mold" you. They have even accepted new nurses fresh out of school.

They told me that their practice has had nurses leave for other job opportunities and then return months or years later. One nurse had been there for 30 years!! They also told me that their physicians are very approachable and love to explain & answer questions.

They asked me your standard questions about how I deal with "frustrating" situations, why I wanted to work at their clinic, and how I deal with people who may not have the same type of "personality" I have.

All in all...we got along well I think. Now it is up to them....hoping and praying for an offer. Let the dreaded waiting game begin....:nailbiting:
