New Grad Neuro ICU Interview

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi there - I have an interview for the Neuro ICU as a new graduate. I know that this is an extremely high aspiration and am aware of the steep learning curve that will come along with the job. I am thinking though, that any new job is going to be overwhelming my first year or so, so why not start out where I really, truly want to be?

I'm wondering if anyone has advice 1) interview questions that may be tailored to the neuro specialty 2) if I am absolutely crazy for wanting to jump right in + 3) if I do get the job, any advice as to what I should start learning or expect from this floor...I want to be as prepared as possible :)

Any advice would be more than welcomed...thank you!

I don't have experience myself, but my best friend worked in the Vanderbilt Neuro ICU. She had been an RN for 3 years before. Most of the stuff she said she had to learn was the meds they give in that setting, and a more in depth neuro assessment. She had at most 2 patients at a time. She said they didn't ask any specific questions about neuro since they already knew her experience coming in, but they just asked basic interview questions (why should we hire you, what are your strengths/weaknesses, give an example of a trying time with a patient/family member). Good Luck!!!!

Awesome, thanks so much. I really appreciate it!
