Calling HR before interview

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi all, long time lurker.

So I have a second interview on Thursday with a hospital for an ER position. I worked in an ER for over a year but was terminated in February due to personal issues. I have worked everything out, was upfront with HR about why I was terminated, etc. The first interview went really well and they were very happy with the recommendation my previous employer gave me, despite my termination.

So long story short, I'm just extremely nervous because I've never had a second interview at a hospital before. I had a second interview for a corporate office job I had years ago, but no idea how it will work with a hospital. This brings me to my question: how would it appear if I called the HR recruiter to simply discuss the interview and who I'd be meeting, etc? I would just like to talk to her and know what kind of situation I'll be in. From everything I've read about second interviews, it can be one new person in the room to being in front of a panel.

I get very nervous (panic attacks ftw!) before an interview, always have. So when they called I expected to hear they were going with someone else or a conditional offer, not a second interview (it's a small hospital). Anyway, I appreciate any responses. Thank you!

Who did your first interview? The way I've had it done was an initial screening interview with HR and then my second interview was with Nursing Management.

Yeah I do not personally think there is anything wrong to ask the recruiter what to expect so at least you can be prepared. Congrats and good luck!
