eKardex for Meditech

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out the best way to develop a kardex in Meditech. We recently got rid of our paper kardexes and IS developed an ekardex that pulls info from iatrics (not sure if I am using and/or spelling the right terms). The result was disasterous, taking way too much time to load and search for this very basic and needed patient info. My UM is putting together a new team to develop a kardex that is quicker and easier to access. We all want the paper kardex back but I don't think that is going to happen. Can you give me any advice or point me in the right direction to learn more about the available options in Meditech? We will eventually meet with our IS people but they are not very open to our ideas or suggestions... it's either their way or no way. Obviously their original way was not very practical!

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Not sure if this is what you are looking for or if it will help.. We also use Meditech to document everything from ie: vitals, care plans, restraints, foley's etc.. Under process interventions you can scroll down to "end of shift report", that is very similar to a kardex, it has pt name, dx, MD, and all info from labs to consults, vent settings, iv locations etc.. Check it out and see if that helps you. We do ours at the end of each shift, update it and print it off to give report to the next shift.

Thank you. this sounds exactly like what we need!! But we don't have it in our process interventions. How do we get it there? Is there any way I could see an example of it?

p.s. I have many more Meditech questions if anyone can help me out. Thanks in advance.

Tech support or someone with the company should be able to add the intervention to your meditech. You may have it but not know its there lol.. when you go to your pt on the main screen click process interventions on the left and then scroll down, to end of shift. Check and see if its there. I'm not sure what version of meditech we use but trust me its pretty basic.. Meditech is not the best system to use.. Do you do your care plans and document PICC/TLC lines under process interventions? What other questions do you have?

I tried to search for an example but couldn't find one.

Greetings TackyBrady,

Its true the Kardex in MEDITECH is under utilized. I myself have more experience creating assessments and with the PCM app but I'd suggest you post to the MeditechL

That MeditechL message board is a little too deep for me. Any other suggestions for where I may find Meditech process intervention info including ekardex and/or end of shift report info?

With Meditech if you are client/server (you will need to ask IS what version you are) they have the PCS Patient Profile Report. This is the Meditech standard report.

It sounds like you have Iatrics at your location. The Meditech version will be faster but I guarantee you won't pull the same data out of Meditech as you will with Iatrics.

Your last option is a NPR Report (your IS staff will know that also) These are notoriously difficult to write and Meditech does not write them for you. So, that likely won't be an option.

I am a nurse and have spent the last 6 years supporting Meditech. Go back to your IT dept and ask to have the PCS profile report if you want something faster but you need to be able to take the time to run the report and make suggestions - it needs to be collaborative effort. Also, like a computer system, there will be limitations.

Thank you mydesygn. I will find out which version of Meditech we have. We have the basic generic patient list that has name, room number age, doctor, diagnosis, etc etc that prints out as a list. Is that the PCS patient profile report? We use that as our "brain" to write our particulars of each patient.

What does it mean to "write" an NPR report? Once it is written will it need maintanance?

What is the 'end-of-shift report' in the process interventions that was referred to Sun0408??

What we need is very basic! I can't believe that something like kardex information is so difficult to incorporate into our system.

It would be nice to visualize these suggestions. I will be meeting with IS this week and want to be as prepared as possible as to what is available. Otherwise, they will just tell me "it's not possible" and we will be back to square one.

Thanks for your help.
