eKardex for Meditech

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out the best way to develop a kardex in Meditech. We recently got rid of our paper kardexes and IS developed an ekardex that pulls info from iatrics (not sure if I am using and/or spelling the right terms). The result was disasterous, taking way too much time to load and search for this very basic and needed patient info. My UM is putting together a new team to develop a kardex that is quicker and easier to access. We all want the paper kardex back but I don't think that is going to happen. Can you give me any advice or point me in the right direction to learn more about the available options in Meditech? We will eventually meet with our IS people but they are not very open to our ideas or suggestions... it's either their way or no way. Obviously their original way was not very practical!

An NPR report is a report that is written from the data stored in Meditech. I don't know of a non-technical way to explain but any report you run from Meditech is written in a programming language. Most likely the end of shift report is just that a custom NPR report written at the hospital.

Your best bet is to get in contact with your IS dept and ask for the PCS specialist to add the PCS patient profile to your Meditech menu or show you where it is cause I would guess it is already there. The patient profile can allow for some customization however you won't get the volumes of data. It can print items such as orders from OE and interventions but the more you add, the longer it becomes. Consider the basics only - allergies, orders, patient data screen.

Also, Just an FYI. When your IS dept states that can't add the data you are asking for. They really can't. Meditech has limitations in structure and they likely have limitaions in staff. it takes several steps to get to data. For example a med order is composed of many pieces of data (start date, start time, stop date, stop time, dose, frequency, route, generic name, trade name, ordering provider, status, label instructions, dose instructions, protocol instructions, etc...) each piece of data has to be programmed to display in a report. The more you add, the longer and slower the report becomes as the system searches, compiles and formats data. Now add non-medication order, assessments, allergies.
