Any SN's from the Philippines? Post here!

I'm on my last semester and will be graduating this March 2006.

Wahooo!!! A few more steps and my journey to the real world begins...

Hello everyone.. I'm currently a 3rd yr nursing student, we are about to end our first semester, and as our 2nd sem approaches, I'll be needing a good book for Medical-Surgical Nursing, since our school uses manuals instead of textbooks which i find lacking with info.. can anyone suggest a good one? I'm using the Pillitteri book for my Maternal-Child Nursing..Thanks!!!

i love d buk of medical surgical nursing by BRUNNER AND SUDDARTH...

its a 2buk part....very detailed...well explained...gud for a nursing student like you....

don't buy those buk that has a short-cut lecture since you're still a student you'll be needing something that would explain everything to you in detail.

you'll appreciate it later specially when you take ur NCLEX/CGFNS exam wherein a good foundation of MS is required.

gudluck!

Thanks a lot mashkaimitopoh!!! I'll try to see and look for the book. Thanks!!!

hey guys just wanna..ask...about the "nursing aptitude exam" or "NAT"??what is this all about...??any idea on how the test will be??thx..!!

NAT a.k.a. "battery exam" is an exam taken up by nursing students before BSN proper (with RLE/duties, concepts on med-surg, etc), it's basically an exam that gauges the cognitive ability of students.

hi again! well im not sure about this, but i think its not true...i havent heard anyone from our school who was removed from the program because he/she failed the NAT...well perhaps no one failed, or maybe it depends on the school... we heared rumors like that when we were freshmen, it sort of scared us too, but anyway RELAX!!, ;) , by now you would have already taken the exam...so...how was it?...easy right?:caduceus:

in our school, when you flunk the NAT, you are removed from the program. passing the NAT is one of the requirements for you to get into the next year level along with a General Weighted Average of 2.0 (from first year to 2nd sem 2nd year), passing the panel interview which include ana physio and health care questions, some crazy stuff and situational questions too. you must have also passed ALL your minor and major subjects. then when you finally get into summer class, you'd again have to pass pharma, nutrition and fundamentals (3 hard subjects everyday for 5 weeks!)

lots of exam and you haven't even touched NNLE... then NCLEX...CGFNS... haaay... long way to go!

then you'd be able to get your much awaited cap (gals) or pin (boys)...

Go Brunner and Suddarth! Dont fail to get the accompanying CDs/ Med-Surg Booklet...

I agree with Lawrence, please focus on the NLE first before anything else... I just graduated Last Nov 8,2005 and passed the December 2005 NLE,i am telling you, taking hte NLE is a good experience which you can use to test how you handle anxiety.

never be in a hurry to take the nclex.... you are still young... ko... i am taking one step at a time.......

:roll :coollook:

hi,

i'm just new here and planning to take BSN as a second courser. mukhang madami akong matututunan dito. i will take your advice 'never be in a hurry' kaya kahit 3-1/2 years, i will pursue this course.:wink2:

I'm gonna be on my 4th level next sem (hopefully)...haven't encountered NAT or NLE??? don't even know what those exams are! are those exams given in Philippine nursing schools???

But we do have AHSE here...it's kinda short term course where in you have to pass and graduate before you can take up nursing proper...so 2 years AHSE(1st yr & 2nd yr) + 2 years nursing (3rd yr & 4th yr) = BSN. I had to graduate twice...not to mention twice the expenses for grduation...But the school's planning to return to the old BSN curriculum though... i just dunno when. Also, we have this Guided Review, you can't graduate if you fail that subject...and it's so difficult...it's like taking the board exam for RN...students from my school said it's even tougher than RN board exams!!!

By the way, you'll get a terrible headache reading Brunner& Suddarth:sniff:. It's not student friendly! Try Luckmann and Sorensen's Medical-Surgical Nursing: A Psychophysiologic Approach, 4th Edition (Saunder's)...it's very basic and very much easier to understand.:monkeydance:

My wife is also finishing next year. Even if they allow you to take the Phil Boards, don't even try to take it. Look at what just happened to the June examinees. They are stuck in no-man's land for who knows how long. Just make sure you can get your TOR's and have your RLE in proper order.

I'm also a 2nd courser and that made me an irregular student. Re: have your RLE in proper order...i think it has something to do with the sequencing of subjects. last semester we had a meeting with our dean regarding that. Well i was hoping to graduate next october but the dean said the PRC posted a memo about sequencing of subjects... you just can't jump from one major subject to another or have it simultaneously or you'll get have a big problem in taking the board exam. It's the school's fault anyway and they had to deal with that...i dunno how! anyway, so i had to take only 1 subject for a semester so i can proceed to the next level... it's so depressing. So for those taking major subjects simultaneously which are prequisite to the other or jumping from 1 to 3 instead of 2, then better ask your school what they'll do about it.

hi, i just want to know if fatima offers a two yr nursing course? im a second courser btw. tnx

Fatima does not have a two year nursing course because there are 8 subjects where you can only have one per sem... at Fatima, after your 2nd year, most summers are required to be taken to finish the Nursing program in 4 years. I am a shifter, from Education to Nursing, only 10 subjects were credited. Most of the 2nd coursers and shifters have 3 or 4 years to go. It's my 2nd sem at Fatima, I'm still classified as a 1st year student but after this sem, I have taken most of the 2nd year subjects. I still have 8 sems to go, I hope they have Healthcare 1 this summer and the other subjects I need in the next summers cause I'm willing to give up all my summers to finish asap... :lol2:

I hear Lanting is a good school, better than Fatima but they only have a 2 year program for those who are already doctors.

Specializes in Critical Care Nursing.

I love the Med Surg of Black..... although it is challenging to read Brunner
