Any SN's from the Philippines? Post here!

I'm on my last semester and will be graduating this March 2006.

Wahooo!!! A few more steps and my journey to the real world begins...

hi Guys! I came across this forum when I am desperately looking for some information about getting a second degree in nursing in the Phil. I told myself why not try this forum, it wont hurt right? and upon reading all your messages and replies, it gave me hope that this forum would help me sort out things in my mind. Right now, i am looking for a school that can accept a second courser like me. I am still here in the US but planning to go home this April. I can only stay in the Phil. the most is 2 years, since Iam not a US citizen yet. so do you know any school that can help me finish the course in two years? how about the phil. board exam, do you have any idea what month/s does PRC give the nursing licensure examination, I know one is in December. Do I have to take the Phil. Licensure Exam prior to taking NCLEX-RN though I am an immigrant? any help/info. from you guys will be highly appreciated. I am so anxious about this idea bec its a big gamble for me, I'll be leaving a good job and my family, too!

hi, teesia28! i personally think that's a good idea. i suggest that you get someone to get your transcript assessed at your target school soonest. i know some schools allow this for you to find out how long it will take you to finish the course. try several accredited schools so you can weigh the results against your options....

Hi! grr guess what, i replied to your msg but i kept getting disconnected. and it was quiet a long reply too. so to prevent this from happening again, why not we chat instead. i don't mind at all. i hope you have yahoo. and i think it will be easier for the both of us and so we can be direct with your concern. I'm here in West Negros College, Bacolod City.

Hope i can be more of help! take care now! God Bless!

Personal e-mail address removed for your safety. Feel free to share it via pm.

Thanks for your reply! I am working on it now- looking for a school, but do you have any suggestions? I need a school either in Manila or Bulacan area...

Hi all!

I'm a 21 year old canadian born BSN student. I'm currently in my first year of school in BC, Canada. I've only been to the philippines once when I was 5 - and I feel like I'm missing out! Luckily, my whole family is going to the philippines this summer for my aunt's wedding. I can't wait! :)

hi guys,

just graduated this nov 2005 and took the NLE last dec 2005

luckily i passed with flying colors... why flying colors?? coz i got 80+ general average.... not bad for a graduate of a petty school else where...

i wud advise everyone NEVER to review @ Pentagon NOR Gapuz (hope im not disrespecting anyone's fanaticism in these Review Centers) why??

i noticed they're more on the money-making side than helping u pass. why do i tell that?? coz 99% of my classmates reviewe there and were so excited that they paid the tuition in full.... only to find out that the method of teaching is not good.... picture this!!! hundreds to thousands to reviewers with only one reviewee on the stage.... its not conducive to learning.. we all know that the average 50 persons per lecturer is the ideal strategy... and they keep on telling that they contribute questionnaires to the BON test bank....

i once attended the Gapuz orientation at PCC hall (somewhere near Trade center, i think) and there were thousands of people with only one speaker... and if ur unlucky and late, ul never get a good seat and will never see even the hair of the speaker.... plus, i heard Gapuz holds its review simultaneously with their Davao and Cebu Branches.... (dunno if true)

i am not advising you to attend these kinds of review centers

choose a RC that hold a classroom type of lecture... especially to the first coursers... these RC are more conducive to learning if you only consist of few people in the lecture....

i know one RC @ REcto... EAsT WEST.... you will seldom see them advertise their RC on newspapers coz students literally walk-in to inquire about the review... the RC is more of a word-of-mouth kind of RC... they-ve been around for i think 20+ years coz my elder aunts used to review @ EAst WESt.... they say EW is a pioneer

PLUS!!! the Dec 2005 NLE TOPNOTCHER (#1) FOR THE REGULAR STUDENTS CATEGORY..... THE GIRL FROM ATENEO DE DAVAO UNIV. REVIEWED @ EAST WEST.......enough said....... i rest my case

Thanks for your reply! I am working on it now- looking for a school, but do you have any suggestions? I need a school either in Manila or Bulacan area...

i can't be confident about which school to choose, particularly if you are a second courser. if this is your first degree, then by all means, go to the formidable schools. you can't beat the QUALITY education you'll get from these schools.

schools offering second degree programs have only done so within the last several years or so, not much of a great reputation to speak of compared with the likes of UP, UST, DLSU or even UE. from one other exchange in this site, i note that second coursers' board passing has been inconsistent over the years so it shows that there's no established reference whether schools offering second degree nursing are indeed reliable. that, to me, signals RISK. doable but risky.

you're gonna need to get someone to do the legwork for you in manila, teesia28. your best bet is to strive to get into an ACCREDITED school with a respectable passing rate and that has been offering first and second degree programs for the longest period among its peers... i know it's tough. do start scouting NOW and you'll come up with your shortlist soon. you'll need enough time to prepare for this. i hope i've helped you in any way...stay well.

To all second coursers, do u mind posting ur schools here? Im planning to try nursing this time. Thanks :)

Depends on what State BON you are going to apply. kindly read Suzanne's stickies in the international forum. Actually, everything you need to know can be found in that forum.

Bird's eye view:

NY needs the CVS (credentail eval. service by CGFNS)

Michigan, NJ, PA, CT needs the CGFNS exam

CA, Vermont, and I believe New mExico BON does their own transcript evaluation now.

All others uses the CES (credential eval. service by CGFNS)

go to these websites for further details.

g'day everyone!!!im a graduating nursing student from australia...i'll be finishing by the end of the year heehee....goodluck everyone n ill c u arounnd. tada

future Pinoy RNs..

do not be intimidated by the announced change in board exam format. they (BoN) only changed the title of the exam. contentwise, it will be the same topics and concepts.

so, my advice is read, read, and read. a solid foundation on fundamental nursing concepts will work wonders on the board exam.

Hello, I'm new here and I find this site very helpful and informative. I am also a second courser, a graduate of UP Diliman and a graduating student nurse from Our Lady of Fatima University. Will anyone tell me if Balita's review center is ok? Thanks.
