Hello everyone,

im a nurse here in TX for 3 years. I am planning to move to new jersey. I work as a dialysis nurse. I 'd like to ask how high is the cost of living on that state. Here in TX, I live alone, i got a house and live okay. one of my friends said ots hard to own a house there if im working alone. I dont know how true it is.

Specializes in Emergency Nursing, Pediatrics.

What's the reason for the move if you are okay where you are now?

Specializes in retired LTC.

As a Jerseygirl I already knew the answer, but I just googled some quick info.

NJ has the 2nd highest state & local taxes; was 5th in cost of living (2014) and 2nd as most expensive state after New York.

So be prepared!!!!!!!

If you really want to check things out, just start checking out insurance costs, HEALTH & auto. Start googling around and use any community town & zip like Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 (just south of Princeton, Mercer County, middle of the state). It cost me over $1000/month for personal healthcare insurance - private, no COBRA.

NJ is soooo cost-prohibitive that there's NOT too many insurers avail in the state willing to take on all the baloney R&Rs. The few here can charge anything they want and there's no recourse.

The closer to New York that you work, the salaries are usually better. Similar for Philadelphia. But NJ is COSTLY.
