So here's the thing: Worked in a call center as I waited to have my results for the boards.. when I got my license, I resigned, which was actually around last week of December 2007. Then on, tried to get into trainings and so I got into one very good hospital and finished my Red Cross and IV Therapy Training... After which, still no job. Now, I took the NCLEX, and I am not that confident that I passed... No results yet. Its my birthday today and I feel depressed coz I still no growth in my career. My parents do not want me working anything else BUT as nurse!!! So I spend my time trying to look for jobs to no avail..... :crying2:

What do you think I should do next?

Apply to Saudi Arabia?

Where I don't know if thats gonna be safe for someone like me?

Need advice. And thanks.

Hello SHennah and Misspowers

I am a jobless nurse. Graduated 2007 and passed the Local Board exam the same year. Then i looked for a job while im waiting for my license.. I tried applying in a call center but sadly i didnt get the job.

Then my churchmate helped me to find a job. In the field that I didn't expect to be... I was hired as a bank teller, worked for nine months then i resigned. because i wanted to pursue nursing... I did get my license and all those certificates after my resignation. Then i tried looking for job,, passed my resume in several hospitals here in manila but I was not qualified because i dont have bsic trainings like IVT, BLS so what i did,, is I go to these hopitals that conduct these trainings.. After few months I do have these BLS and IVT trainings plus the certificates and license . Then again I passed my resume but still no response... Right now i am looking for a hospital and apply as a volunteer nurse can u help me.. sheenah and misspowers.. THank you! in advance. Hope that u can help.

>>>>>>>>> while im looking for job

I was helping my parents pay bills when im still working. Im so happy then... but now i don't have work. Jobless,,, but im still helping them not terms of money but in household chores..n_n

V. Luna offers training for nurses for free. A friend I met during my BLS training last year told me she underwent the training there and she didn't pay anything.

Quirino Memorial Medical Center accepts volunteers but you have to pay 1000 php / month.

And yeah, I also heard that a hospital in Tala accepts volunteers. I heard that most of my batchmates are volunteering there.

I also agree with the idea of working in Saudi Arabia. Not only do you get extensive work experience, you'll also get paid more than what nurses here in the PH earn.

I'm also a June 2007 board passer. A month after taking the exam, I trained in hemodialysis. Then when I found out I passed the local board, I submitted my resume to where I trained. While waiting to be called, I took my BLS and IVT training and also passed my resume to other hospitals. Then just 2 weeks after my trainings ended, they called up and I got hired. :yeah:

Just don't be extremely picky. Accept whatever opportunity comes in your way (where pros > cons of course). God Bless to you guys! The competition is getting stiffer with more and more nurses produced each year.

hi 5 cats! us is not doing very good on the economic front and so, what we have settled into is a decision that we do want to be together. however, we are still looking exactly as to what to do, where to do that, that we both have work. his company also has a branch in australia... AND if if it were more possible for me to work there.. who knows?!!

there are lots of options, and it doesn't hurt to look.

i feel bad that you have the same problems as i. that is the main reason i don't wanto to just get married, (even though i really want to haha), is because i don't know where nursing career will take me, if it will take me anywhere. thats my biggest consideration.

why don't you try applying to call centers with heath background as a requirement? like htmt, teletech, eperformax? if you are not opposed to doing that for now. at least there i am sure being a nursing graduate will be an advantage.

you are one of the luckiest people i know! i should've had the same idea.. instead i went into the call center industry as i was waiting for my board results. lol. i hope i can be just as blessed as you. i will take every opportunity just as you did. i assure you:)

thank you for your message! in a way it inspired me, because it shows that it CAN be done. :)

Woow!!! that's nice QuackmoOnster hehheehe ur so blessed to have that Opportunity..

To u sheenaRn.. thanks for the advice n_n!! GOD BLESS NURSES!!

Hi Griffon!

I have actually looked into possibly going down the Australia route, however, you are right.. It is quite expensive. Starting with the exams, plus the assessment.. and relocating there to study. Do you know if they give you a student visa for this? Are we allowed to work if ever? I know somehow my parents can shoulder the tuition, but the rest I am not too certain. Saudi is my very last option, for now.

Thank you for your input and hope I hear from you again soon. :)

So I don't reinvent the wheel. I'll just direct you to a huge thread concerning Australia. You will find people who have actually gone through the process and can give you a 1st hand account of their struggle to get to there. I hope you keep us posted so we can live vicariously through you, as well as learn from your real world experience so it can help others. Good luck.

@sheenahRN and lola --- Yeah. Even though if I'm only working in an outpatient dialysis clinic, good thing I wasn't choosy over working in hospitals. ^____^

I agree with Griffon. Australia's a very good choice if you have the money. Queensland accepts applicants with no clinical experience and you either have the option of taking a bridging course or writing the exam known as the Competency Assessment Service. There is already a review center for the CAS exam here in the Philippines. After passing the exam or completing the bridging course, you'll be registered in Australia and you can start working.

That's not entirely true. There is a clinical/lab portion of the exam which MUST be taken in Australia. So you have to bear that in mind as well. Plus there is a 7-week course that must be taken all before you actually get a job.

It is expensive and time-consuming but in the end the benefits for working in Australia are outstanding. The pay is great, the Visa package automatically permits the spouse and children to come in with the nurse once s/he is employd and the spouse can also work while the children get full educational benefits. It's a good program but you really need to do your homework and prepare yourself for the time and fiduciary obligations.

In the Philippines there are a few Australian-established organizations which facilitate this. Please make sure you deal only with Australian-based companies for this, none of the Philippine-only companies have the right authority with the Australian government to get this process done correctly and they will actually cost you more money in the end.

in my case,if after january and still no hospital will call me for an interview,i'll switch to call center, even if i'll be taking the nclex on feb.7.

im hoping also,a fer january... sigh:) prayers are all we can do right now.

is that true that you don't need a hospital experience in applying in Queensland Australia? Does my volunteer experience counted if apply i Australia? I am planning to go for the bridging program so that I can work there... thanks a lot for your reply....

You need to address your question to one of the agencies which specializes in Aus. nurse integration. There are a few run by Australians here in Manila. Please be sure that you are dealing with an Australian established institution before proceeding.
