Resume and Cover Letter Help... Please

World Canada

Published

I moved to Alberta July 1st.. SUPER excited to start nursing out here... and applied to 20 jobs.. and didn't get a single interview or anything. Working now as my other profession, but it doesn't really pay the bills.

I really need help with someone going over my resume and cover letter, to maybe give me a better chance at landing an interview.

Thank you SO much in advance for anyone who is able to give me a hand. :)

(I've removed all the cities and name of place I worked specifically)

I am submitting an application for a nursing position within the ----- as advertised on the Indeed.com job website. I believe my qualifications and experiences make me an ideal candidate for this position.

I have over a year and a half experience working in a fast-paced home-care based setting, where I was working with diverse populations, with varying levels of physical and mental abilities, providing care to mixed-age groups, including children. I am eager to continue contributing my knowledge and gain new experiences within your organization.

As a Home Care Nurse, I was often responsible for the care of medically-fragile children and teenagers and I discovered a passion for working with minors. I skillfully created a safe, comfortable environment for my young patients and my approachable, gentle nature ensured highly-therapeutic relationships. My education as a Social Service Worker enabled to me to confidently liaise and collaborate with other professionals involved in the patient's care, access community supports, and advocate for my patients. Additionally, I have demonstrated the ability to help provide support to families facing difficult diagnoses, as well as patients facing a variety of challenges. I have successfully incorporated a unique blend of whole-patient care; I value partnering with my clients and focusing on the promotion of health, a holistic approach to healing and supportive therapeutic nurse-client relationships.

I thank you for taking the time to review my resume and I hope this brief account of my competencies intrigues you enough to invite me to further discuss the details of this position.

Sincerely,

xxx

Specializes in geriatrics.

Your resume and cover letter are well written and you have some experience. It's likely not you. Oil has tanked in AB and there are more applicants than jobs.

All we hear about lately at work is managing resources, budget cuts and wage freezes. I've worked for AHS when they had adequate funds and they were still cost cutting the front line staff.

Consider applying to home care agencies or small towns, in addition to AHS. Apply to everything. Also, 20 applications is not much. You may need to apply to 50-100 more positions in this market.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I was starting to really get down about it. I will keep on applying. :)

Specializes in Acute Spine, Neuro, Thoracic's, LTC.

Not sure where in Alberta you are but I'm in Calgary and have 8 years of experience. I've applied to about 50 jobs over the last couple months with no responses either. The job market is horrible right now:(

I would take the latest pet grooming off. Also have your nursing experience and education and certifications higher up.
