Non-facility nursing jobs

Hello all,

I've submitted before; I'm a recovered AA member, mother and wife who also has renewed her license 4 years ago. I'm 50 yrs old now. I've renewed my license twice. (alcoholics like to suffer..hehe) - just for fun. not to work. insane huh?

However; because I messed around for so many years (the definition of insanity)....I have little experience. When you spend 15 years either drinking or recovering; you have little time to grow as a human being, let alone your career. I've also had years of psychotherapy, and been diagnosed with Major depressive illness (recovered).

I have less than 2 yrs acute care experience (20 yrs ago!) and very little else, but have life experience, and some recent mental health/long term care experience.

WHERE can I find work? That is something I can utilize some (basic) nursing skills, not work nights, and maintain my license?

thanks for your time.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

Have you considered home care ? A friend of mine also worked in an automotive factory in employee health.

Hi,

Yes I have worked in homecare prior and I'm going to also consider; it seems that it's hard to even get an interview these days. But thanks for your response.

Have you looked at nursing career postings with mental health employer's? I don't know what the employers are like in your area but in my area, the largest mental health employer is CAMH, an equity employer that is open to hiring people with disabilities "including people who have experienced mental health and substance use challenges".

Home wood in Guelph is a good option as well.

How about Office jobs such as insurance or patient support programs where you're answering questions over the phone.
