I am a Canadian student nurse and going into my med-surg clinical. What medications are the most commonly used in med-surg? I want to review them. Thank you!!

Pretty much everything. No one special group.

Insulin and all the other diabetic Meds, anti hypertensives, antibiotics, antidepressants, antipsychotics, statins, blood thinners

Vitamins, minerals, sleep aides

We see them all

The easiest way to begin learning medications is by medication class. Once you have learned the key medication classes, learning individual medications makes more sense.

What gets me are the ones that take a narc and a couple if sedatives at hs and are still AWAKE! I would be passed out and these little old ladies are still raring to go.

Don't forget the bowel meds!

i had a pt on restoralax twice a day, Metamucil, colace and senokot! If I took all that I'd never leave the bathroom!

On a surgical unit, I would definitely review anti-emetics, analgesics and anticoagulants
