Has anyone had an interview at Durham Region (Ontario, Canada) for Public Health Nurse position? This will be first interview for PHN position. I am not sure what sort of questions to expect. Any tips/advice on how to prepare for this interview. What I should focus on? What type of questions I can expect? Any help/tips would be appreciated! Thanks

The interviewers will likely ask you the standard nursing interview questions. Check out the career nursing section here on AN for tips.

The interviewers will also likely ask you why you want to work in public health, and you will be required to apply public health competencies to a case study or situation.

Google The Public Health Agency of Canada for this information. This is a great resource. You should also be familiar with the Community Health Nursing competencies, found on their website.

You should also be familiar with the social determinants of health, and be able to speak to some of the current issues.

I have interviewed for this type of work during my undergrad and I am enrolled in a Masters program for public health.

I hope that helps.

Thank you! That helps. Were you interviewed at Durham region for the phn position, joanna73 ?

No I wasn't interviewed there. It was a different program altogether, but the concepts will be the same.

Denise would you be able to message me or post on here what questions were asked on the assessment? I have an interview soon and not sure what to expect. Also what kind of questions were asked in the interview?
