Can an RN challenge an RPN exam without returning to school?

I am an RN practicing part-time for four years. My hospital is leaning toward RPNs currently as a money saving measure and my hours have been severely cut. As the primary earner in my family I need to work! Does anyone know if I can challenge the RPN exam with the BsCN education to change my registration?

Are you wanting to work as a registered psychiatric nurse or a practical nurse?

Where were you educated?

Moved to the Canadian forum,

I think there are some threads that have discussed this before suggest a search

Specializes in geriatrics.

You would need to contact the College. The RPN is a separate class and scope of practise. I'm assuming you are in ON where these cuts are taking place.

You would need to apply, pay the fees and write that exam. The CNO doesn't usually let anyone challenge exams. I would suggest trying to find an RN position. The whole process isn't as simple as challenging an exam.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

If you are in Ontario, no they won't let you do that.
