I believe that is not how they assess the credentials. I have a friend who was also assessed by the SRNA, we both earned our degree in the same school. I was given eligibility to take the CRNE while she was required to undergo SEC.

Hi there.

I have already received the checklist after 9 months of waiting and hoping that someone can give me an advice regarding one of the document they are requesting me to send which is the Application for Assessment, it was stated on their note that

"1st language requires completion.Nursing Education-shows diploma however,transcript says degree of BSN-which is correct?Have you taken a nursing re-entry/refresher program in the last 5 years?complete"

They resent my filled out form with these specific guideline:

Please note we require clarification regarding your ‘Application for Assessment’, therefore a copy of your application is attached to this e-mail for correction. Correct or clarify the sections mentioned on the checklist, initial your changes, sign and date the form at the bottom of the last page to indicate that the corrections were made by you and e-mail the form back to our office. It is not necessary to complete a new form.

I ticked the box diploma instead of degree. So on my understanding, I should have ticked the degree instead of diploma?

Colleges of nursing will not complete assessments of applications until all requirements have been met. This means that all the necessary paperwork must be filled out completely and correctly. The initial screening of this document revealed inconsistencies that have to be cleared up. Make a print-out of the form that was attached to the email. Make the required corrections - cross out the mark in the "diploma" box and mark the "degree" box, then write your initials next to the changes. You didn't indicate a 1st language on the form so this needs to be written in and your initials written next to it. And the question about nursing refreshers must be filled out too. If you have taken one, mark the box for "yes"; if you haven't then mark the box for "no" and write your initials next to is. Then either scan it and email it back to SRNA or fax it to them. They can't do anything else with your application until the form is properly filled out.

Ok, many thanks JanfRN. It is stated that it is valid for 1 year from last contact with SRNA with the date specified 2011-09-13 so the counting started from the date they made an initial assessment?

By the way, here are the list of documents I needed to complete:

Competency Assessment Declaration

Hours of RN Employment

IELTS- I did passed it but expired last May, 2011 so I need to repeat it again

Application for Assessment- (with your advice and cleared up)

How long does it take to evaluate and have the eligibility after the documents are completed? should I look for an employer now? I'm in the Philippines and doesn't know anyone from Saskatchewan :-(

I didn't consult any agency and accomplished this on my own. Please guide me. thanks!

The Competency Assessment Declaration is a document that asks if you've ever applied to another Canadian province for registration. It goes on to ask if yes, where was it and an explanation - basically they're wanting to know when and if you're actively registered there now, if not, why. Next is were you required to undergo a competency assessment, and if yes, you're to complete the authorization at the bottom of the page allowing SRNA to obtain the results of that assessment. (It would save them a lot of time and effort to have the results, if available; they wouldn't then need to assess you themselves.)

Hours of RN Employment refers to the requirement for all nurses registered with SRNA to have a minimum of 1125 hours of nursing practice in the preceding 5 years, or to have graduated from a recognised nursing education program within the preceding 5 years, or to have taken a nursing refresher.

Yes, your IELTS score must be current (within 2 years).

Many of the documents they require, such as proof of registration or licensure in the jursidiction where you were educated, proof of current registration or licensure (if different from your original registration), education transcripts, employment verification and perhaps some others, must be submitted directly to SRNA from the source. That means you cannot submit copies of documents, or go pick them up yourself to make sure they're mailed promptly. And that's where a lot of the delay comes from.

The date of last contact is the date on the email they sent you. Any further contact from them will push the clock back again. The process once all the requirements have been met can take anywhere from 6 to 18 months. This is actually the easy part,. The CRNE, immigration and finding work are all much harder.

Thanks again for your reply, it is indeed very informative. Last question though, what should I write in at the First Language section? Is it Tagalog or I just write English instead? Sorry for asking simple question, I just want to refrain from doing a mistake again. Regards. :-)

What is the first language you learned as a child? What language do you speak at home with your parents? What language do you think in? That's what you put.

is it true that SRNA has high IELTS requirement?

ALL of the provinces have high IELTS standards except Quebec which has even HIGHER requirements for French language fluency. Saskatchewan's minimum scores are Speaking - 7.5*, Writing - 7.5*, Listening - 8*, Reading - 7*, Overall - 7.5**SEM (Standard Error of Measurement ) - 0.5. A score 0.5 above or below will be accepted.
