Help! CA or NV license? New Grad positions in Las Vegas?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi everyone!

I am currently in a nursing school right now: Western University of Health Sciences. I won't get my Bachelors in Nursing, but BSN Essentials. I will be taking my NCLEX by the end of this year or in January 2013. I will complete my Masters in 2015. My husband is currently in Las Vegas for grad school right now, so I would like to find work in Las Vegas or Henderson, or nearby cities.

First, I don't know whether I should get a CA license and transfer to NV, or should I just get a NV license, since I want to work there? I am also going to apply for jobs in California as well, just in case I don't get a job in NV.I plan to ultimately, within 4 years or so, to go back to CA. Are the licenses reciprocal both states?

Secondly, are there New Grad programs at hospitals in Las Vegas? I was looking at hospital job listings, and all of them state "Currently licensed RN" as one of their qualifications.

Will someone help me please? Or give me advice on where to start?

THANK YOU!!! :)

CA jobs for new RN grads are almost non-existent...the ones that do exist, you will have SO much competition it is cutthroat. There are tons of jobs IF you already have RN experience (usually at least a year).

Nevada has only one new grad program and that is at St. Rose Hospital- it is Terrible here too :(
