Finding a First Nursing Job Out-of-State (Kansas City, MO)

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi nurses,

I'm a brand new RN (passed NCLEX this summer, graduated with my ADN in May) from New Jersey; however, and this is probably terrible timing, I'm looking to relocate to the Kansas City, MO area where family is currently residing.

Do you know of any hospitals in that area that are hiring newly graduated nurses? Almost everywhere I look seems to requires a BSN and/or 1-2 years experience. I'm starting a BSN program in September, but sadly I don't have any nursing experience. I know it doesn't mean much when it comes to a Job Search, but I graduated as valedictorian of my college and was president of our student nurse organization.

I applied to a few positions at Saint Luke's but haven't heard back. I'm worried I won't even get past the initial screening process with my lack of experience AND current location. I explained in my cover letter my reason for relocation and that I'm applying for my MO license; any other tips of what I should do to increase my chances of finding work in KCMO?

Thank you!

*Wasn't sure whether this should go in the First Job Hunt or Missouri Nursing category. So sorry!*
