Where to find Med surg scenarios / simulations?

Hi everyone,

I'm a Nurse on a med surg floor with one years experience. One of my weak areas is identifying when patients are have a minor or major problem AND what I should be doing in each situation.

I'm looking for scenarios that will aid me in this area, either written in book form or online or something i can purchase.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey...I want to be thrown in on this advice as well. I will be starting clinicals soon and I also heard that we will have to be team leaders and delegate jobs. Can anyone give me some insight on this and what exactly I shoudl and should not do? I have bitten my nails down to the core...lol:uhoh3:

Do you mean you think there's a way of practicing this stuff besides sink-or-swim? You just need to "use your nursing judgement"! What did they teach you in school anyway?

I hope it's obvious that I'm being sarcastic. If there are good materials for this, I'd hope they be incorporated into nursing school so graduates wouldn't have to scrounge around on their own to find it. If you find good resources, please do share!

Oh yes we had SOME exposure to this but it was splattered all over the cirriculum in various courses. We'd get one or two assignments that exposed us to this type of "CRITICAL THINKING" but it was not "drummed" into us as i think it should be from day one in an organized fashion. I mean hey they have this sort of thing for critical care nurses, why the heck not for med surg. Half the times we get higher acuity patients than we should anyways.

Personally I think there should have been a critical thinking "COURSE" in itself for school. But hey, what do I know, I seem to lack this skill anyway....but it seems like I might make a mint by scrounging up the details and publishing such a title myself. I couldn't find anything on amazon.....

Do a search on amazon for case studies. I recently purchased a book from there "Unfolding case studies experiencing the realities of clinical nursing practice".
