  1. I was in the same boat last year when I graduated...I finally found a job that is about an hour away from my house. No one wants to hire a new grad because it takes a seasoned nurse off the floor to train the new one...It sucks...been there done that...I wish you all the best and keep applying...It will work out.
  2. I work at North Oaks and wanted to work at Slidell, but when I graduated they had a hiring freeze. I did clinicals there for post partum/nursery and liked it alot. I live out in Slidell and the drive to Hammond is kinda getting old, ya know. Has Slidell gone to computerized charting by any chance? That is one of the things that I dislike about my job is that not only do we have narrative charting, but flowsheets, skin sheets, patient needs list, etc. They are planning on adding some more...I feel it to be redundant and I am over it...Thanks for the input.
  3. Hi...Just wondering if anyone knows anyone that works/worked at this hospital. Is there computerized charting, day/night shifts, how long is the orientation for, etc. I am working almost an hour away from where I live and would like to get closer to my neck of the woods. This place always interested me, but I really don't know anything about it when it comes to working environment. Thanks for any input. Have a wonderful day.

I have seen a doctor give it for hiccups...Has anyone seen this?
  5. Yes...The pt felt that if she were to receive anyones blood, she would receive their sins.
  6. Hi...Still a new nurse under a year. Finally experience my 1st patient who refused to have a blood transufion even though her H/H came back with panic levels. Because of her refusal, the doctors are basically treating her with iron and oxygen. I did give one dose of Procrit 10,000 units sq. The family has threatened to call the head of the hospital, etc. because they feel that the docotors aren't doing enough. The hematologist is the one that ordered the iron and oxygen, and stated it would be a long process before her H/H would come up. What more can be done? Thanks...everyday is a learning experience.
  7. I understand that and do respect their decision. My question is what are the other alternatives that can be done.

  9. You could call around New Orleans and the surrounding areasin Louisiana.
  10. Is there anyway to retake the semester? Several nurses that I am friends with failed that particular semester and they were able to retake it and finally passed. I am sorry that this happened to you, but dont give up. If you do apply to another program, find out 1st if they will accept your grades from the 1st semester. You wouldnt want to start completely over if you didnt have to do so. Keep me informed and good luck.
  11. Is this the Gulport Hospital program that you are referencing?
  12. Thanks...that makes sense.
  13. Can you tell me why we are pushing lasix after a unit....still learning here.
  14. What do you think about the surgery unit?
  15. Okay so you take out every other one and then what do you do? If all staples need to be taken out and they wanted the strips to be used?
