I am highly considering enrolling into Walden University's MSN in nurse education program. My question is what is the week to week amount of work expected? I hear it is ALOT of writing. A research paper every week, posting responses to blogs on forums which include research, reading etc. I know that there will be alot expected of me with grad school I guess if you could tell me how rigorous and the week to week work load would be great. Also this forums has said some great things about Walden, but when I research Walden on google, there are many students who have said the program is looked down upon and that they all had a hard time finding jobs, my question is after you have graduated from Walden with your MSN in nurse education, how easy/hard was it for you to find a job?

I attended the Walden Master's in Nursing Education Program 2005-2007. I have nothing but positive comments. There is only 1 course that meets every 8 weeks. It does get a little tedius after 2 years because you only have about 3 weeks a year off of school. The positive is that you are done in 2 years and it feels like you only went part time.

All the courses were set up the same. An initial post in a discussion is due by Wed. (that means you have reading done by then). 2 responses are due by Sunday. Usually there were 2-3 papers and a journal assignment within the 8 weeks. I was able to have a baby, change careers, and move in the middle of my program and I found it very accomodating! You will love Walden!

do you feel nervous about finding a job b/c your degree is from Walden vs. someone who received their degree from a brick and mortar school? I think Walden's MSN in nurse education is a great program and I have heard nothing but good things about the program but there are always those people who think that because you got a degree from Walden you took the easy way out. I am looking at Walden and Liberty University's MSN in Nurse Education.

I am currently attending Walden. I have 7 more classes to go. I have been teaching on a community college for five years. We have a faculty shortage now. My college does not care if it is a brick and mortar or online-just that it is accredited. There are 3 of us faculty attending Walden now- two others have recently graduated.

The classwork is not bad. Main discussion posting with 3 responses by the end of the week. Usually 2-3 papers for the class. papers vary in length-some 3-5 some 5-7, not too bad. I havce found it manageable. I do not have little children, but many of my classmates do. They find it manageable. I have enjoyed my classes, and would do it through Walden again.

I finished my clases with Walden on Nov. 1st., and am interviewing with several different universities. It is a great university, with a great reputation, and I had plenty of time to do usual activities.

Congratulations Dfurbee. I start my specialization classes Monday. I am so ready to be done, but I must say Walden has been great. Any encouraging words?

While I understand your concern here - I think online programs in nursing are well accepted by the nursing community. Walden University has a very solid reputation of being a research based organization of higher learning that is focused on global change. I graduated from the MSN in Nursing Education program in August of last year. I never had any problem or questions raised about my MSN because I was a graduate of an online accredited university.

Academia can be elitist and at times look down at online education. However - this attitude is beginning to change because adult learners are demanding flexibility in order to achieve an advanced education. Mainstream universities are beginning to see this changing tide and most are beginning to offer their undergraduate RN completion programs and graduate education online. Take a look at Kaplan's new commercials - they are compelling and really speak to the need for adult education to be flexible, relevant and accessible.

Best wishes in your decision. I know from my experience that Walden was a great choice for me.
