Taking job you know you're going to quit soon

Nurses Career Support

I have recently relocated and am searching for a job. I have a possible opportunity for an office job but the position won't be available for probably 3 months. I was offered a job at a local hospital and do need to work in the meantime. I worry about putting all my eggs in one basket and holding out for this opportunity in case it doesn't work out. Would you take a job knowing there is a possibility you would be quitting 2-3 months later for something better?

I wasn't suggesting that we lie to the employer.

Rather, they are on a need to know basis with my personal information.

This. You ***** them over, don't be surprised if down the line it doesn't come back to bite you. Not to mention, what if down the line you decided you wanted to work there again?

I have a problem with lying, so it wouldn't be an option for me. Each one has to do what his/her conscience permits.

agreed!!

with the way hospitals are going.... They're turning into monopolies that provide most of the nursing opportunities in certain areas. You do not want to burn them!

But also the truth in this situation is that you have an actual OFFER and a "POSSIBILITY". That's a huge difference. The office position may never come to fruition. And if it did and both you and the employer are still interested in each other maybe you can arrange something prn.

on the other hand. Going prn at the hospital and working the office full time may not be possible considering most hospitals wont let you just go from full time to prn without getting past your orientation and probation. Most require you be in a position at least a year before being able to apply to a different job status.

I'd take the hospital gig and expect to stick around for a while.
