Starting a new floor PRN?

Specializes in ER.

I have 6 months of acute care experience in short stay/chest pain obs. It's basically an extension of the ER. We get abdominal pain, chest pain, syncope, dehydration, flu, pna, gastro, the occasional GSW, etc. working nights was taking its toll and I got offered an awesome Mon-Fri no wkds or holidays position at the local health dpt. I took it instantly. I'm really excited about the learning opportunity and the hours. However, people keep telling me I should keep something prn at the hospital. I'm trying but it looks like it won't happen on my floor (and possibly not even at my hospital). When I look up prn positions I see things like NICU or ICU or ER come up the most often. I have no experience in those areas. Would they hire me for those floors prn? Should I even apply? Would it be crazy to apply prn to a floor like that without experience? Or can I expect to learn but know it will be slow? My goal would be to work 2 Saturdays a month. TIA!

Apply.
