prep for ER nursing..

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi everyone, I am new here and would appreciate any advice. I have 5 yrs nursing experience in a busy teaching hospital-- staff nursing on neuro floor and the last 2 yrs in oncology clinic/telephone triage RN position. I have stayed in triage much longer than I wanted to b/c the hours are so great (no weekends/holidays) but no longer feel challenged and miss direct patient care.

I very much want to transfer to the ER but have no experience and have not practiced ANY hands on skills in all the time I have done phone triage. Can any ER nurses out there give me advice on what exactly I should be doing to prepare to work in the ER? ACLS, etc..?

Thanks for any advice.

:balloons: hello and welcome :balloons:

there are so many who can answer all your questions better than i. someone will come along and help you. acls, pals, nrp and trauma course wil help tremendously. during orientation, if you get a position in er, you will develop even better skills.

good luck!!

siri, crnp, clnc, rlnc

good luck!!

Siri--thanks for your advice, it's a start anyway! How long have u been in ER? I have always wanted to work ER but I feel like i am going from one extreme to the other. What are all your titles exactly?
