Nursing Values and Beliefs on Resume/Cover letter with online application?

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello - I am beginning to apply for jobs and one hospital requires a "nursing values and beliefs" statement. I am not sure where to start, and would like some guidance regarding this part of my resume. For instance - how long? Written in first person? etc.

I am also wondering if a cover letter is required with an online application (with fill in the blank type resumes).

Thank you!

This is never been asked of me either. Normally, what employers do is have you take some type of personality assessment that gives them an idea of your values and beliefs. Is the hospital a religiously oriented one? I would wonder what their mission and value statements are. Is there anyway you can get a copy or is it on their website? This may help you cater your values and beliefs to them if you strongly believe in this hospital and desire to work there.

I think it is always important to provide a cover letter with your resume because it helps to sell you and saves the employer time from going through your resume.

Thanks for the feedback!

Good idea about finding out their values. But you also want to be sincere. If they are a religious hospital you can say "I believe all persons to be children of God worthy of my best....." "I believe I'm called to nursing to......."

My personal values and beliefs for me would read "I believe that all patients regardless of monetary background, ethnicity, religion, or lifestyle are worthy of my absolute best care equally, as if they were a family member." or something like that.

Be brief and to the point.

Good luck!
