Nursing Students and DWI's

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hey, I am new to this site, but so please excuse me if I don't use the proper chat lingo. :) However, I am currently entering my second year of nursing school (ADN program). During this past three week break before Mental Health, I was charged with a DWI. I am currently going through all the legal proceedings. I am pretty certain I will end up making a plea bargain, because they have a failed breathallizer result. I can handle whatever happens with my legal future, but my main concern is how it will affect my nursing career. This is my first time for any kind of violation. If anyone has any information, please HELP! I just need some peace of mind. Thanks!

but we all have been there, even if we we were not drunk

Actually, no, we have not ALL BEEN THERE.

There are many of us that drink, but refuse to do so in situations that might result in driving afterwards. It is not that hard abstain from irresponsible behavior.

It is called behaving responsibly. We also do not use prescribed/OTC drugs that might impair judgement and drive. Again , it involves behaving with concern for those around us.

Please do not use the typical "teenage" excuse that, "Well, mom/dad, everyone does it". Because not everyone does.

I totally agree with caroladybelle, very well said. Not all of us have been there .... some of us are smarter than that.
