Nursing as a second career choice

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi Everyone,

I need an advice regarding my trying for nursing as my second career. I have done my Bachelors in Science with major in Microbiology (Overall GPA-3.04). Then I did my Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology (Overall GPA-3.89). I have been working as a infectious disease epidemiologist with the health department for last 3 years. Right now I am getting myself prepared for HESI2 exam for the Accelerated 12 month BSN program. Do you think I have any chances of getting into this program? I completed my BS in 2005 and MPH in 2012. I recently took Anatomy and Physiology (8 semester credit hours) as well as microbiology (4 semester credit hours) and got all A's. I work full time as well and I am a mom of two toddlers. I also started doing volunteer service since last year as I thought it might help me in getting an edge. I have a low undergraduate GPA and that's what worries me and that was the other reason I took A&P and microbiology recently. I still have to take government courses and visual art elective for my program. Please be honest in telling me if I have a good chance in getting accepted to the accelerated BSN 12 month program(UT health Science center) I am aiming for?

Specializes in NICU.

Call the school because it is highly likely that they will use your MPH degree GPA instead of your undergrad.

Which UT? Tx? Tn? There is a lot of variation between states & university systems.... even campus location may make a big difference in terms of the amount of competition you have to deal with.

PP advice is spot-on. If you want accurate information, check with the program advisors.

Best of luck to you.
