Nurses Career Support

Published

When i decided to go back to school i put alot of thought into it. This is not somthing you want to enter lightly. I knew when i decided to do this ( the fact i have 4 children) and i am starting my 3 rd year of school , I knew there are days or longer that i would be working short, i may not get the pay i want ( not the issue here) and i may not get the hours or the area i want. I decided to be a nurse because if i could make a difference in just one life then these long hours of studing ect. have paid off. I love what i do that is what counts

ps. i worked as a nurses aide for 8 years in a nursing home previous to deciding to go back to school.

There are times we fall short and are tired just donèt forget why you wanted to be a nurse, i find that helps on those days when you walk on and they say sorry we are working short today. Dont forget its not the patients fault either.

thank you for listening RN ICU hopfull

RN_MOM4,

Congratulations on choosing nursing! I have been an RN for 4 years now and there are days where I wish I would have gotten a job at Wal-Mart as a greeter passing out smiley face stickers at the front door. For the most part though, I love what I do and I am pretty good at it(need to get better on my IV sticks though). The most rewarding experience for me is when a pt tells me that I am a good nurse and thanks me for being so nice to them. That is what makes it all worthwhile!

Good Luck with your studies!

Kelly:)

Mom-RN4, I really like your response why you wanted to go into nursing. As with all jobs there will be ups and downs, but the idea of helping even just one person is a big draw to me. I think about how scary it can be to be in the hospital and having strange procedures, not feeling well and to help a patient get through this period can be really satisfying.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

If it makes you feel any better, there was a student in my class who had 4 children when she started. She gave birth to her 5th in the middle of our 3rd semester!!!

She graduated and passed her boards this summer. :D

You have a very positive outlook and it sounds like this is what you really want to do.
