nclex passer without any job experience

Hi guys! i just wanted to seek help for my upcoming carreer. I'm a Bsn graduate from the philippines(yaaay) and just recently move here on NJ and planning to take nclex on NYS. Applied CVS on CGFNS and submitted application at NYS education and I'm waiting for their approval to register or schedule my exam. i just wanted to ask if it is necessary to have a CNA or job experience related to health care prior working as a RN ?

If you live in NJ you can't work with a NY license in NJ. If you are thinking of NYC, you need nursing experience to get a nursing job. CNA won't help much as there are hundreds of applications for each position many are locally educated and experienced.

You are aware that the average processing for CVS takes approximately 6 months right? NY will not consider your application until they have the cvs report.

Actually i ordered CVS around july 2014 and submitted application at NYS this month(feb 2015). What steps should i take first after passing nclex? Anyway, thank you for the response. appreciate it!

Do you have paid nursing experience? Not sure why you applied for a NY license if you live in NJ. Both states are short on experienced specialty nurses (PICU, NICU, CVICU, OR, etc)

i don't have any paid experience or any working experience. just plain related learning experience/clinical experience during college days. is it that bad that i don't have one? :/

Maybe he choose NY because of unlimited take on nclex. fYi it will be hard for u to have work if u dont have any paid experiences. :) btw when did u graduate? If more than 2 years u need to take refresher course before applying for job

Yes. NY & NJ are overrun with many new inexperienced locally educated grads who graduated recently. Clinical experience is not a substitute for work experience. It's going to be very difficult but not impossible. More so since you don't live in NY with a NY license.

yaay ! thanks for the additional info. :up: just graduated last year (2014) and after flew immediately here in new jersey because my port of entry is expiring ( green card holder can stay max. 1-2 years outside the US) . New york because my mom said its easier passing requirements. (correct me if i'm wrong, some states require clinicals when you are a foreign graduate?) .

Not exactly. CABRN may require extra coursework if clinical and theory were not concurrent. The easiest and fastest method is always to apply to the state where you wish to live and work.

Go for ur state its easier for u to receive mail application rather than choosing another state.
