L&D/Mother Baby Job Hunt Advice

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi there! I'm a new graduate nurse looking to find a job in women's health, particularly in L&D, Mother/Baby, NICU, or OB.

However, I've been honestly struggling so hard. I've done the certifications like NRP, STABLE, and Basic FHM. I also have become a member of AWHONN. I've applied to so many hospitals and not ONE has called me back for an interview. I have had two interviews in non-women/baby units and they both have noticed my resume pretty much smells of mother/baby/L&D.

I'm honestly feeling so discouraged right now and I'm at loss as to what to do next. Should I tailor my resume to not include mother/baby certifications anymore? Am I putting too much? Am I missing something? Am I applying to early?

Any advice (and encouragement to be honest...) would be appreciated. I just want my dream job and I'm not sure if I should settle for something else right now and then transfer...

That is confusing to me as well. Do you have anymore nursing experience? Maybe they want more than just L&D? What other types of work have you done? I can't ee why you can't land an interview.

I've had a labor and delivery preceptorship, had experience at Kaiser Permanent as an intern where I educated expectant mothers and young moms, and volunteered in the same hospital in a postpartum unit and postpartum lactation program.

It's seriously baffling :/ I can even send you my resume and cover letters to get your input? I need all the help I can get :(
