How much did it cost for your ADN?

I will be attending college in the Fall. I'm taking 4 classes (12 credits) and its costing 2100 plus 400 for books. I figure it will cost me around 20,000 to get my ADN. Just wondering what it typically cost to get your degree. I will be attending community college in PA. Thanks, Jennifer

There are all kinds of grants offered on a national and state level. I currently am in the ADN program. Here in California if you are independent, and make under a certain amount of yearly income, then you can get something called a fee waiver at community colleges. I was going to a university to recieve my BSN at first, when I realized how much money I would save if I got my ADN first, then proceeded to work on my BSN. My logic behind that is most hospitals have some kind of school assistance funding programs, so this helps a lot. A lot of people dont want to wait or really spend the time to research funding options for school, so they end up paying a lot of money that really could have been avoided. I do realize this is not everyone's situation, but I know many people who just pay a lot of money without researching grants and free money offered to students. Also if you live in California and take out a loan (its a certain one i can't remember off hand which one it is) and become an RN a portion of that loan is waived. There are immense amounts of free money out there, you just gotta be smart and do your homework. I get fee waivers, cal grants, and pell grants, and my out of pocket is basically nothing! My goal when I graduate in 2 semesters is to not owe a single dime to anyone, as far as student loans go.

I did mine the community college route, ADN, I ended up with about 17k in loans owed, but I also *lived* on loans and took out the full amounts allotted.

That's peanuts to repay when you look at the average RN salary.

When I started it was only $11/credit! They raised it to $18 and then $26. The books cost way more than the classes. According to the school I attend website, it will be approximately $2800 for books and enrollment fees. They also estimate Malpractice Ins costs, equipment costs, club costs, etc but I didn't include that in the $2800. So, pretty inexpensive if you ask me!

Hey there, I just saw this post just today. How are you liking Palomar! I loved it, it's a great program!

but (keeping fingers crossed) there is a chance I will get in for the Spring semester. I've been finishing up my GE classes for the time being. Just taking the last class I needed for the diploma, Spanish, to satisfy the humanities req. Nice to see someone who has btdt at Palomar!

My husband is now taking prereqs at Palomar, hoping to get into the nursing program there but the waiting list is so long now!!! He is taking physiology and getting an A (I got a C) I hate him. He might go to Cal State San Marcos instead depending on how it is to get in there.

I researched Cal State but I don't have enough transferrable credits and there are a lot of "extra" classes that I would have to take, meaning more time for me. So, I decided to stick it out.

I got a B in Physiology, I found it to be the hardest of the three big ones. I can't believe he's getting an A! LOL!

$400/semester + books. I paid $125 for books this semsester. So less than $2500 for the whole program. But, thanks to lovely tuition reimbursement, I won't really spend a penny! :p Plus, the hospital where I work doesn't require a committment, so as soon as I get my check I can quit! (which I will).
