I was wondering how long one would have to work in any department in order to transfer to another department? 3 months? 6 months before transfer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :specs:

Most hospitals have rules about the amount of time needed. You need to call your HR department and ask them.

This is up to your hospital and your own personal tolerance.

However, a good rule of thumb is one year. This gives you good experience that you can use to market elsewhere, and lets the manager of the unit you want to go to know that you can handle commitment and responsibility and that you aren't a quitter.

Yes, where I work it is a minimum of 6 mo. before you are considered for transfer, but it would look nicer on your job history to stay there for about a year. And from the reading the forums here, I'd say you need to give almost anything about a year to see what its really like since the first 6 mo. or so are tough.
