Denied Application to Baptist College of Health Sciences

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello all I received a letter from Baptist on 6/9/2010. I just knew that I had been accepted because I met the minimum requirements. I was really hurt when I opened the letter only to find out that I wasn't accepted. I am a recent business graduate and I have wanted to be a nurse for a long time. I am feeling really discouraged now. I want to apply again for the Spring, but I really don't think I can take another denied letter. Any suggestions welcomed. :crying2:

I'm sorry to hear that you weren't accepted. It must be very disappointing. :( There are usually a lot more applicants than slots to fill in nursing school, so it's very competitive. So, it's often not enough to meet the minimum requirements. I'd suggest contacting the school and finding out why you weren't accepted and how they'd suggest strengthening your application.

I agree with the previous comment that nursing programs are currently (for some time now) so competitive that meeting the published "minimum" requirements is typically not enough to get one accepted. In the last BSN program in which I taught, the student handbook and school literature all said that the minimum GPA to be eligible was 2.5 -- however, because of the number of high-GPA candidates applying each year, the reality was that no one with less than a 3.6 GPA got in.

You'd be amazed at who is getting turned away from nursing programs these days.

Is there something you can do to increase your GPA? Maybe retake some courses for better grades? Do you have any healthcare volunteer experience? Anything to make you stand out in the crowd? Those things may help. I agree that asking the school what might make your application stronger is a good idea.

Best wishes!

Thanks for the responses. I am a recent business graduate and my GPA is 3.0. I have no healthcare experience. I am currently a supervisor @ a hospital maybe I can volunteer to help out in anyway possible here. I will contact the college and ask them how I can strengthen my application.
