Being Hired Part-Time Straight Out of Nursing School

Hello! Is it EVER possible to get a part-time residency for new grad RN's? If not, what are other options for part-time jobs as a new grad? I am thinking a temporary position as a flu-shot nurse out in the community or maybe something in long-term care. My passion is L&D/Women's healthcare but I'm not sure that I can find a part-time residency in the hospital. The reason I cannot work full-time, for at least six months to a year out of school is that while I graduate in June, I am due with my first child in July! I can only hope to take the NCLEX before the baby comes!

I definately don't want to lose the skills I've gained. Advice?

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions in advance

Scorpio,

I doubt whether you will be able to do a 'part time' new grad residency. These are very expensive programs to run - with very specific time lines. Generally, there is an established curriculum integrated with carefully arranged clinical experiences. It would not be easy to modify this for only one person in the group. Organizations want to get maximum return on their investments.

Maybe you could arrange to enter a winter residency instead. My organization - and a lot of others - generally conduct them twice a year, to capture the spring and winter grads.
