accelerated BSN programs in NYC, queens

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello All:

I am looking to change careers and I would like to become a RN. I have been looking all over for schools that have a accelerated program within NYC or queens. I work a regular 9-5 shift

1. does anyone know of any that are not so expensive?

2. Any that offer evenings and weekend classes?

3. any where you can take the pre-requisites while in the program?

is there any other way, except for a four year degree, that I can obtain my BSN degree? Or does anyone have any other ideas of what I can do to become a RN?

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) has a good list of education programs. Here is the list of Accelerated BSN programs. It is broken out by state.

I'm a career changer myself. Live in NJ. I just finished up all my prerequisites at a community college near me. I would look at the colleges at the website that UVA Grad had given. Go through each of the schools to find out what prerequisites you need to take and how long the program is.

The programs I looked at in NJ range from 12-16 months. Also, once you narrow down the schools, its important to go to an open house/information session about the program. All the ABSN programs here in NJ require your first degree GPA be at least a 3.0 to apply. And they advise you not to work as the program is very intensive.

Good luck.
