Hi I took the November state finals. I was really nervous before and convinced I failed. But I passed, and so did everyone else. What I found:

- there isn't much info for nz states. Don't bother with any American nclex stuff because it's nit at all the same.

- there's a lot of of mental health. Not much about the act in November though. Lots about there meds though.

- drug calcs were simple, however they gave you much more info than you need to trick you. Read the question, much sure you know what they are asking. Ignore the extra info.

- there were questions that I think no one knew the answers to. They were like trick question. For example had one about who has the highest rate of rheumatic fever and you had to choose between Māori and Pacific Islander.

- there may be patches in the exam where you have the same answer (a b c of d) for quite a few questions on a row. Dont second guess your self. Happened to be on both exams, but afterwards, I found out everyone did that.

- the first exam is the hardest. I walked out like omg. Why did everyone tell me this was easy!! The second exam was much better.

- quite a few paeds questions too.

- ask you school for fir resources. Mine had a list of previous questions, which Is all I studied. I only studied the day before states. Just keep calm, you know more than you think.

- emergency questions is all the quite person needing attention regardless of anything else snd your dr abcs.

- after you exam don't talk to much about the questions. I did a little bit which was good, but don't over think things. Once you finish forget about the exam till results day. Also make sure you celebrate that night, I wish I did.

good luck on your exam!!! I know nursing schools make out that states and getting a job is really difficult. It's really not. You made threw transition, you can pass states. And getting a job is possible as long as you get your cv out there and show initiative. I don't know of anyone from my class who didn't have a job within a month of getting state final results. Personally I got offered 8 Netp interview, simply by emailing my cv to dhbs I would move too. But in the end choose not to do Netp, which has been a great decision. Still working in a hospital, just dint have all the extra work of Netp.

Thank you and Congratulations.... I am bit nervous and anxious. Im praying that it wouldn't be diffucult and will get a passing mark.

Hi Newgradnurse17...nice if you could share your paeds reviewer/questions..thank you again...

Ummm of the top of my head

- mongolian spots

- ear indections

- dealing with kids and family

- paediatric assessment triangle

- vitals

there was more but can't remember. But was easy enough. The pregnacy and new born things were harder. Because other than doing well child checks on placement, I had no education on the subject. Can't remember much on that other than the development stages, difficulty breast feeding and baby weight loss.

You cant study everything. Know your basic, meds, safety, emergency help, drug calcs, normal vitals and you'll be fine. You've been studying for 3 years. You know this.

I recently gave an interview for the talent pool didnt get through the first round of ACE.. I am so worried as I have done most of my placements through out my course on medical wards except for mental health and community. I had been to a talent pool interview where i was interviewed by the charge nurse as well as the netp coord of that DHB, but I was not sure of which area the other person was the charge nurse off.. But during interview when i was asked if I had any preference for any particular area I said no I was open to any be in orthpedics, surgery or anything. But the Charge nurse then asked me but I had an experience in a medical ward.. My brain went blank and I just replied back saying yes and I am open to any place.. I know i didnt give in depth answer for her question, but then when I got back home I checked her name on their dhb website and found out that she was the charge nurse for orthopedics and they have a vacancy on their Ward!!.. I am so worried now thinking if it would go against me as I havent given in depth answer such as showing my enthusiasm and saying I am happy to work anywhere as far as i can get my experience.. I so want to get into NETp but i keep getting nervous and doing mistakes.. oh well i hope small mistakes are taken account off but not been critically analysed.. because as I know our government is trying to recruit most of us new grads into jobs and I hope I am one of them!! Wish me luck people :)

That's book is no longer available. You won't be able to find it anywhere. And honestly you don't need it. I know state final is this big thing, but actually it's not that bad. You'll be fine.

Also priya did you get netp?
