In House, Many Spoke With One Voice: Lobbyists'

WASHINGTON-In the official record of the historic House debate on overhauling health care, the speeches of many lawmakers echo with similarities. Often, that was no accident.

Statements by more than a dozen lawmakers were ghostwritten, in whole or in part, by Washington lobbyists working for Genentech, one of the world's largest biotechnology companies.

E-mail messages obtained by The New York Times show that the lobbyists drafted one statement for Democrats and another for Republicans.

Yeah it is difficult for some to realize that the Dems are handing even more profits to the the greedy healthcare insurance companies. And if a John Q. Public can't pay the government will give those greedy healthcare insurance companies some money. The Dems bill is all for the status quo. Just disquised.

Another glimpse into the power held by the insurance companies. Politicians from both parties mouth the words and "wisdom" of the insurance lobby.

So no matter which program we get it won't be much better than what we have.

This will certainly be true if we do nothing other than deny we need change and berate those who advocate for it.

Yes, you should stop berating others.

I think what's even more disturbing, is that some of these politicians didn't even know where the information came from, it was given to them by their aids and they found out about it after the fact.

So you're saying they just spouting whatever was on the paper without any knowledge of what they were saying and we should trust them?

I knew you were going to ask something like this.

This bill doesn't put the American people first, I've never said otherwise, but there are some good things in it.

Ultimately, we are forced to ask who to put our trust in regarding health care, the government, big business or the American people. Most folks would probably choose the latter but there is a lot of disagreement over how to put the American people first.

I think a single-payer system is the best way to go. I think it puts the American people first and tells the lobbiest for big business to take a hike.

There are SOME good things about most anything. Ted Bundy was a nice guy at one time, maybe more than one time. He worked for a suicide hot line.

And yet making a single payer system doesn't solve the underlying problem . It won't change the fact that healthcare in this country COSTS too much. We spent un wisely. We save people who maybe shouldn't be saved. But how do we make that judgement. I remember when it was almost a mortal sin to make a person a NO CODE. I remember a doctor telling me he wasn't gonna play God. And I told him that continuing to pound on someone's chest was just that... Playing God. I believe God at that point had another plan for the patient.

The problem in this country is not who is gonna pay for healthcare; but HOW, whoever does, CAN.

And wouldn't it be the biggest irony that those insurance CEO's have no other talent than greed and we as taxpayers end up paying for their healthcare. That would be the ultimate.

It does a lot to control costs, I and many others on this forum have gone to great length explaining how.

So an appy won't cost the same with the new system. A CT scan will be less. If that is the case how will the nurses be paid. Do you really think the CEO of hospitals are gonna take a cut?

You haven't explain how it will be cheaper at all. If we add 47 Million people without healthcare insurance, who we all agree are very sick people, what without money for preventative care, all these years won't that in reality drive up costs. I mean 47 Million CT scans ain't cheap.
