Just an update....sent one of those e-mail form letters to my congressman in support of the bill before congress that would expediate DNA evidence nationally in rape cases. The first response l got back l posted on another thread, (can't remember the title), basicly the conngressman was giving all the good reasons he did not support this bill. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, l went back to the form letter e-mail and revised it with the heading, "More than 22,000 nurses are reading your response!"..l put a plug in for nurses too...in case you are interested, here is his response...l guess the heading caught his attn, cause this is no form letter!

Dear L:
Thank you very much for your thoughtful response to my most recent letter
on H.R. 2874, the Debbie Smith Act. It is nice to hear from you again.
You bring up some very interesting points about this legislation and I do
appreciate your input. I agree with you that states should have better
access to available DNA records to prosecute rape cases. These heinous
crimes should never go unpunished and more extensive coordination may be
useful in solving these crimes. Americans must always work to ensure that
when these horrendous crimes do occur, the offender is swiftly brought to
justice. I believe we must remain vigilant to ensure that laws against
such behavior function in the most effective and efficient manner
possible. Unfortunately, too often politicians propose and pass laws with
little consideration for their effectiveness, possible side-effects, or
cost involved.
This legislation has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee and it
is not expected to see action on the House floor this year. When Congress
reconvenes in January, the bill may be considered in committee. At that
time, I can assure you that I will assess the revisions made to the bill,
evaluate if more revisions should be made, and make a determination
whether this bill will, in fact, be helpful in the prosecution of victims
of these crimes.
L, I want you to know that I understand the difficulties of being a
nurse today. During this Congress, I supported the Nurse Reinvestment Act,
which was recently signed into law by President Bush. This bill requires
the Secretary of Health and Human Services to develop and issue public
service announcements that advertise and promote the nursing profession,
highlight the advantages and rewards of nursing, and encourage individuals
from diverse communities and background to enter the nursing profession;
award grants to designated eligible entities in order to increase the
number of nurses; establishes a fast-track nursing school faculty training
program; and, establishes a National Nurse Service Corps Scholarship
program that provides scholarships to individuals seeking nursing
education in exchange for service by such individuals in areas with
nursing shortages.
Thank you again for contacting me. I do appreciate your continued input
on these issues.
Sincerely,
John Boehner
