National Nurses Organizing committee

Nurses Activism

Published

Hi ppl, I found this great group and thought that everyone who is either done with school, in school, or about to start school should join this group. Remember, no one is going to look out for nurse rights except our own selves. If you want safe patient ratios, or a good wage, or that no one should be turned away from care that you want to give, everyone should think about joining this group. http://www.nationalnursesunited.org/ BTW, i'm only a student that should be starting nursing school in may, but i do see a trend especially in south florida. Nurses on this website complain about abnormally high patient ratios, low wages, and having no say when it comes to management. It is up to Nurses to organize together and move towards a more favorable working environment. Well, that was my :twocents:

What do you mean no thank you, that's exactly what you're doing when you pay for health insurance!!! What do you think, it goes in a little box just for you, and whenever you need to pay for medical procedures, it comes out of that box??? The problem, is that we should do this on a national scale so that it's cheaper on everyone. It's simple math, THE MORE PEOPLE IN THE POT, THE LESS MONEY IT COSTS EVERYONE, INCLUDING YOUR EMPLOYER. Yes, you find comfort in that belief, until you're the one that comes down with a major illness and you get screwed. You want to call my belief smug, go ahead. I don't care about bettering myself, i care about people dying or going bankrupt in this country. 3/5 of all bankruptcies in this country are due to medical bills by people that had insurance. I think that's more than just "some". These are peoples lives, what's so bettering about that. Enough with this "I got mine screw you" type of thinking, it's screwing up this country. And you know what, if you really believe in that, then you should suggest abolishing our socialized police and fire protection, and privatize it, so instead of it coming out of your taxes, you can just put it into a corporation, and whoever doesn't have money whenever they need help, can just get dropped.

Everyone in that insurance is putting money into the pot. With government run healthcare some won't be putting any money into the pot.

The more people in the pot will cause costs to rise for that particular insurance. More people more illness to be paid for. If you have more kids does your cost drop? I suppose so if you recycle clothes etc. Maybe per capital but not the bottom line.

3/5 of the bankruptcy in this country are NOT caused SOLELY from Medical bills.

73% of fire departments in this country are run by VOLUNTEERS. And Police protect every one and every one pays taxes for that protection. Everyone won't be paying for health insurance with these reform programs.

Not everyone pays taxes...some are too poor. Not everyone pays for health insurance...some are too poor. Not everyone will pay for the reformed health insurance...some are too poor. The reform doesn't change much in terms of the poor paying into the "pot", the intent is to get those who are not "too poor" and who currently don't pay into the system (young adults come quickly to mind) into the plan...increasing the pool and eliminating their occasional uninsured forays into the health delivery system.

The too poor who actually don't pay taxes already have medical care. MEDICAID. Those who don't BUY anything, don't SPEND any money, don't PAY for housing aren't paying taxes. Everyone else is. Those who rent are paying taxes to their landlord and he/she in turns pays taxes. Those who BUY food, clothing and pay for shelter are paying taxes.

Massachesetts has near universal healthcare, with mandated healthcare coverage and their ER visits are UP since it's inception. They don't have enough docs to take care of the extra people with healthcare now. Do you really think that young people are gonna buy healthcare insurance for big $$$ when the fines for not doing so are cheaper. In Mass many buy just before they get fined and then let the coverage lapse until they are close to be fined again. They know how to beat the system. I can drive my car until I get stopped without insurance. Some insurance companies report and some don't. What a nightmare to track every American to be sure their healthcare premiums are paid every month. Talk about a waste resources.

And don't you think that those young people who have to pay big $$$ for healthcare insurance aren't gonna use it every chance they get. Why wouldn't they? Acne, colds, sniffles, pain in the leg, rashes, etc.

So was there something about my post that you disagreed with?

I am very glad the police protect the unemployed who are not currently paying taxes.

And that the firfighters and paramedics respond regardless of whether taxes wer paid.

Five of my cousins are volunteer firefighters.

Their equipment and training are supported by the community. And the fire department is not for profit. There is a difference between volunteer firefighters and a health insurance corporation traded on the stock exchange.

Thank you. This is the major issue that is going on these days. Because as a country, we've been so selfish, we are paying for it. Not only is it costing us more money, and we're getting back less benefits, we are also paying a moral price for it, and it's ruining our country. If you have a problem with a private corporation, what is it that you can change about it, nothing, you either pay, or go somewhere else. At least when it comes to the government, it's us, the people. If you don't like it, and want to change it, you can do it by either making your voice heard, or voting out whoever is not doing what is needed. But at least the government is in OUR control, we don't need it to make a profit when it comes to healthcare. There's also another thing, after everything that has happened with banks, healthcare companies, and insurance companies, I am clearly sick and tired of corporations. Everywhere that i look, i see them gaming the system, they don't abide by the rules, they bribe our politicians, and get away with it. How can it be justified by an insurance company, to just drop someone from it's roll after they've been paying money for the healthcare they need. I want us to have morals again, and I don't think a corporation can do that, because they only have 1 rule, and that's to make money.

And here is something else i don't get. Nurses are letting these hospital board members and management dictate how patient care should work, but in turn, we want to blame unions. A union is all workers coming together to state their rights, and to have a say. Whether it's patient care, or compensation, you should have the right to have a say when it comes to these subjects. If you don't like what you're union is doing, you can always change it, but when it comes to management, they're is no say, you either take it or leave it.
