Fused joints and nursing

Yep, had to undergo a painful surgery 5 days ago, a total wrist fusion and to add onto this, I'm 24. My surgeon had a sit good chat with me and said there is no reason why I should quit working in healthcare. Up until the few recent years, I worked as an EMT.

Have a long ways to go yet with recovery and adjusting to this new, well, joint.

Are there any nurses out there working with a fused joint? :)

Personally, I see no reason why not. I have just applied to nursing school, but I have been a registered x-ray tech for the past 7 years. I have a fused ankle joint & a few other birth defects, but I don't let it stop me from doing what I love.

Hi I am 24 also and I have a fused joint in my foot, I have to say nursing has been challenging I am out right now after having the fused joint cleaned out and a repair done to the cartilage. Even though it has been challenging I am still glad that I am a nurse and after I get better I will go back. who knows how long I will be able to do bedside nursing but right now I am making the best of it. Hang in there you can do nursing with fused joints don't let that stop you!! Good luck to you I hope you heal fast.

I am a 23yr nursing student. I was wondering if you guys could give certain techniques or tips on how you go about in your daily nurse routine avoiding harming yourselves and your fused area?

I just had a meniscus(sp?) tear in my knee due to the wear and tear on my joints. Face it running around on the floor can play havoc on our joints/muscles. I just got surgery yesterday and wll probally continue to work for at least another 10years running. It's what I do and will continue to do til the doc says no...
