Eligible for RN thru Excelsior?
Hey, I just found out about Excelsior this weekend and so far it sounds very good. I am in an Accelerated BSN Program at a very pricey university $40,000. I do not wish to continue at my school but if you wish to continue your BSN at your Accelerated Program have you thought about Scholarships? It might slow you down a year but there is free money out there.

Fused joints and nursing
Hello, I am a 23yr nursing student. I was wondering if you guys could give certain techniques or tips on how you go about in your daily nurse routine avoiding harming yourselves and your fused area?

Can I make it in Nursing school?
Hey KT08, I am a 23 yr nursing student with a disability. its hard going through school nursing school on its own, but with a disability it makes it that much harder... but NOT IMPOSSIBLE!! For me it gives me that extra push and drive to carry on. Think about it, those same people who tell you it is not possible probably would have told you the same thing of enlisting in the Air Force. Nobody knows your weaknesses or strengths better than yourself. I was just wondering how your doing now, and what was your ultimate decision? Best of Luck!

Upper Back and Neck Injury from work
Hello, I am a nursing student with a bulging/ herniated disc, I am only 23yr and can only remain standing for short intervals before i have to sit down. Today is my first day of clinicals at a local Nursing Home, I am really nervous and wondering if I can make it on my 7:00am- 4:00pm shift. I cannot lift anything over 20lb without feeling radiating pain down my right leg. I was reading your messages and was just wondering how things turned out for you?

Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?
HEY charlyn15, The same thing happened to me as well. I was placed on a waiting list and was called in early July and asked if I was still interested in attending MDC. Fortunately I was accepted to the University of Miami and there is where I am going to for my Accelerated.

Any tips for someone attending the University of Miami?
I just want to clarify certain things about the city of Miami. Miami is a city in the USA, in Florida actually. And just like any other city in the USA all the Traffic Signals and Signs are in ENGLISH. LOL

University of Miami accelerated program spring 09
Hi, I think it is fine if you do not go to the General Orientation. The way I see it is; if you already have a Undergraduate Degree you know the study skills and strategy required to make it. I am not going to the General Orientation only to the Mandatory School of Nursing Orientation.

University of Miami accelerated program spring 09
hey everybody, thanks again for all the helpful replies to all my questions and concern. and for all the valuable info you have all contributed (especially you kimberly*pink). thanks here is what i have to contribute and i hope it helps some of you: like some of you, i have to take up some student loans to do this accelerated bsn program. i was going to take the loans through sallie mea, but then i did a bit of research. i found that "discover cards" is the only student loan program allied with ffel that is offering benefits on loans, at this time in this economy. sallie mae, being the biggest student loan organization has a 1% default fee and 1% origination fee on the principal of your loan. however discover has 0% on fees (including default fee and origination fee) and for private loans they offer a 2% immediate cash-back (on principal reduction) if you graduate on time. which saved me about $500 that i could sure use on something other than spending them on fees. just thought you guys should know. i bet it is never too late to change your lender. these are the courses i am taking this upcoming fall '09: nur304 ax 6 m 8:00-11:20 a a. vega nur307 fx 3 m 1:00-3:30 p n. apatov nur314 qx 3 t 1:00-2:40 p j. sikkema nur315 nx 3 t 8:30-11:0 a tba do you have any advice or tips on how to study, for the courses with these particular professors? (listed above: a.vega, n.apatov, and j.sikkema)? and i also read from previous threads that not all books are necessary, that some class notes are sufficient. which books are a "must have"? which books should i save my money and not buy? here is the textbook list: nur 304 ax adult health i: nursing 304 (pkg)(summer 2009) author:elsevier nur 307 fx pharmacology: drug therapy in nursing (set:txt/lynn:lipp)(w/cd) edition:3rd author:aschenbrenner drug therapy in nursing (sg) edition:3rd (recommended) author:aschenbrenner nur 314 qx health assessment: physical examination etc (w/cd) edition:5th author:jarvis pocket companion for physical examination etc ed: 5th author:jarvis physical examination & health assessment (dvd) author:mosby physical examination etc (online course) ed: 5th author:jarvis nur 315 nx pathophysiology: essen of pathophysiology (w/cd) edition:2nd author:porth essen of pathophysiology (sg) edition:2nd recommended author:porth

Anyone applying to the Basic BSN Program at UM Fall 2009??
Hello Tatortots, What they told us about applying early is as follows; "Apply when you have a few pre-reqs left to finish". I applied when i still had 3 pre-reqs left (my last semester). The Pre-Reqs GPA is a big factor in achiving acceptance into this program. So if you still have alot of classes left to finish, then I recomend you wait a bit because they wont have enough information to asses your application. Best of luck!

Hi, I am a bit concerned about the laptop situation because I have a Mac Laptop, and it "not advised" to use them wit HESI exams. Are we allowed to use the computer labs for these exams? Did you happen to see any mac users in your class? Thanks in advance
