Problem with therapist

Hello all,

I have been in CT's HAVEN monitoring program for a year now, and about 6 months ago, when I began my job search, my therapist told me she would not have a problem supporting the lifting of my narcotic restriction. I have been 100% compliant with HAVEN. Recently I have been getting several inquiries for job interviews, and HAVEN stated that they are ready to lift the restriction as long my therapist agreed.

I asked my therapist about this now, and she now is giving me the run around. She's telling me many times that you have to return to work and see how it goes before they agree to lift. I don't see how that even helps considering if you aren't using narcotics then how can they know even after a few months if they should lift. I don't know what to do. I feel like she is sabotaging me and not being fully honest/forthright.

Sorry just needed to vent/get opinions.

In my state the treatment programs and therapists are not really independent- your therapist might be running into this in her communication with the board. In other words the independent therapist might think you are ok to return to any setting, when she communicates this to the board she will get pushback- if she does not follow the boards recommendation she will no longer be on the "approved provider" list.

This is an area of the monitoring program that oversteps its charter- they are not supposed to treat or make medical decisions. Unfortunately this is just another hurdle for us to get over as a challenge to the board would probably only end in more trouble for the individual.

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties. Have you talked to your HAVEN case manager?

How frustrating! Having a key restriction is a game-changer in the job search. And it ties your hands in an interview, because if you have a key restriction you need to tell them during the interview (I'd wait til the end after they already fell in love with me!). Maybe she's just not sure what to say because she's wondering if you need to actually work before the key restriction is lifted, and she doesn't want to sound like she doesn't know. I'm with june2009...I would call my case manager.

Thank you for the replies! I will my case manager tomorrow. My therapist also says she is going to contact her and "touch base." I'm nervous what is going to come of this.

It was not a requirement in my state to tell them about my participation in my program until the job offer is made. Be sure to check before telling people things they don't need to know...

I am also in CT PavementRN. I couldnt afford the HAVEN program so I have my urine screens done at a local Concentra Urgent Care Center and my therapist is approved from my treatment program I attend. I was wondering where you were applying to?. My nac restriction doesnt kick in until I get my first LPN job and then it is for 1 year... sucks bc my probation is for 4 years.. n its tuff finding a job..so its nice to see where others are lookin...good luck to you
