NPs, critical care?

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hello survivors,

I was wondering if any of you have found work in critical care settings or have been accepted into an NP program? I had worked solely in CC and level I EDs and was (am still) planning on becoming an NP before driving my life off of the rails. Thankfully back on track now. any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

A fellow nurse in my IPN group has been accepted in a NP program. I've also been told (by a very reliable HR person in my hospital) that our ICU is IPN friendly. My hospital is a large Magnet accredited facility. I hope that helps.

A friend of mine in PHMP is working in the ED but she is near the end of her contract. I don't know where you are in your contract but in PA there are restrictions on the settings you are allowed to work in. You start out with a 6 month narcotic restriction and then after that is lifted, you have to wait another 6 months to have another restriction removed. Some people ask for the supervisor restriction to be lifted an others might ask for the ICU or Ed restriction to be lifted. Nurses in phmp are not allowed to work ICU, CCU, Cath lab, Operating Room, agency, home health, or ED right away. Every state is different though.

I was just accepted into UConn's ACNP program and am a part of CT's HAVEN program. So yes, it is possible!

I just graduated from my ARNP program and I am applying for boards now. All while embracing recovery. As long as you're honest and forthcoming, road blocks can be overcome!!

I found out at the end of the program that the dean of my ARNP school was president of the FL BON so he was no joke! Also, I also just found out my admissions director was in AA for 40 years!

Keep pushing, don't accept no for an answer, continue to do the right thing and God will take care of you. Much love.
