Job applications...

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi everyone, I just started my contract & am looking for jobs. I have been sober/clean for 6 months and am very grateful. I lost my job for diversion. Does anybody have any tips when filling out applications when it asks "Reason you left your place of employment?" What is the best way to answer this question honestly, but also without incriminating myself? I just know that I feel that I can explain my situation more during an interview--if I am fortunate enough to get one :) Should I put that I was terminated for a workplace violation? That was an idea somebody gave me, does that sound ok? Thanks everyone for reading and any advice would be appreciated :)

I agree with posters:). I would not put the exact reason on the application, only because it creates an automatic bias against you. I've known a couple nurses who were able to win people over in their interviews. They probably wouldn't have had that opportunity it they disclosed from the beginning.

I can agree with that because I know I will automatically be judged. I'm also struggling with the question "Have you ever been terminated from any job? Describe the circumstances and dates it.happened." It might not completely be phrased that way, but you get the jist of what I'm saying.......it just gets me so stressed out ...:-/...by the way, I was fired for the diversion of narcotics.

Just don't lie. Poop happens, but lying about it just makes you look worse. Try to phrase it as best you can without lying. A lot of people are better in person than on paper so doing what you can to get that in person meeting is good, just don't compromise yourself. Good luck!

It is stressful, the great news though is that you are getting out there. Its not easy, but many here have gotten jobs :)

willow you've gotten some great suggestions! I too came to this board for the same reason! Soo many questions on how to go about applying and what to say- what not to say.. But I just take the suggestions offered here and it seems to work for me! I've only had 1 interview out of the 4 apps I put in, but when I mentioned being in the monitoring program in the interview, the manager just said okay, not a problem. Didn't ask why or any details about it. I haven't heard back yet but at least I wasn't shamed or looked down upon :p. I did what a lot of people do and tried for dialysis. Still praying for a call this week saying to come aboard- in the meantime sent in another app tonight. I hope the job searching process goes well for you :)
