most new states Bon, would probably continue the IPN STIPULATIONS UNDER THEIR WING......it appears to be " cleaner" to stay and complete ipn stipulations......i am not giving you legalxadvise per TOS, i am glad you sought counsel ....you are not alone.

Now granted this was 5 years ago, but I moved from CA to FL. My license was suspended in CA (they don't have any control over you when you move) and the so called "investigation" began by CA. Records became public and my investigation, should I try to get my license back here in CA would be over $5000 even though I admitted to what I did. The BRN told me that no matter how much I did in FL in terms of time in IPN, it would not count to CA and I would start over again. Once in FL, I did join IPN, which lasted about a year as we moved back to CA. It was a much more tolerable situation than the Diversion program in CA, especially the whole ETG thing. No one in FL was afraid of a positive as their cut off rate was higher.

DH got laid off and we returned to CA. So now my license is suspended in both states. In order for me to get my license back here I would have to jump through all the hoops and frankly it's not worth it. Here in So Cal the job market is overflowing with nurses and I can't imagine anyone that would hire a L&D nurse who hasn't been at the bedside for 7 years with a nard restriction. Probation here is pretty tight as far as when and where you can work.

My advise is, if you want to keep your license, stay in FL and complete the program. I don't know of anyone who has been able to beat the 5 years and in fact I heard the head honcho of the FL program speak once and he said that he doesn't believe that you can prove sobriety with less than 5 years.

Now granted my experience was 2-5 years ago, but IPN is far more friendly program than CA.

My experience with hiring an attorney was that the BON saw it as a hostile move... I was clear that I wanted the attorney to walk me through the steps to getting into the program and cut the time I would be in a program to the minimum... I spent a good amount of money on the attorney, and his actions almost cost me my license- and did cost me my ability to come back to my previous employer.

I am just over 2 years in the program- it is hard to be monitored so closely. Ive had a slip up and was surprised at the leniency in a positive drug test- it made me feel like the BON felt I could live a better life and helped me to dig deep.

Before I came into the program I did have a problem with opiates, I didn't have a habit with anything else and thought it would be interesting to see how I would change with 4 years of sobriety from everything. It has given me time to find other things to do, to have better relationships, and to find the humor in drinking my soda water while everyone else is pretending to have fun.

Given the choice between no license and public discipline, public discipline and 2 years of IPN, and 4 years of IPN with no discipline- I would choose 4 year contract again. I would not have hired the lawyer as the BON has a set way they want things to go, they operate off of administrative law so they are making up their own rules....

The best I did was fire the lawyer, get an evaluation that recommended outpatient treatment, and get back to work. I am a few weeks away from completing the work requirement- I'm not sure if Ill stay in nursing, but at least Ill have a clean record if I leave.

IPN, HPRP, HPSP, Monitoring... I use them all interchangeably as those are some of the things people call their monitoring agreements
