Finding employment with IPN contract

I am an RN in FL, I just recieved an IPN contract, 5yrs, with a 1 yr key restriction. Any suggestions on trying to find employment? Where to go, what type of positions to look for?? I have applied everywhere I can think of, hospitals, office, nsg homes, but nothing so far. I do mention upfront that I have a contract, which I thought was better to let them know,(since I have to tell anyways). I need to know if anyone has any suggestions on making the reentry? My issues are not related to any patient issue/neglect or anything of the sort, and there was no diversion. I haven't worked in about 3 yrs and desperately need to get back to work. Nursing is who I am, and what I want to do.

I was told by one hospital to take a refresher course, does that really make me more employable?

My other question is, if I don't find employment in nursing, am I able to get licensed in another healthcare profession?( Such as dental hygenist, xray, ultrasound, something of that sort) I don't want to do this, but if I can't find a nursing job, I may have to seek other venues.

If anyone has any suggestions on what to do, tips, what type of nsg position to look for, any employment opportunities, I would greatly appreciate it.

I am kinda lost on what to do at this point.

I have a license long monitoring contract--which means forever--as long as I practice with a RN license. I don't have a narc lockout. I found this forum very helpful because I was losing hope and not knowing where to turn. It's nice to get some advice from fellow nurses in the same boat. I've experimented with telling some employers, no telling others. Ironically the ones that I don't tell deny me for some other reason before I can even tell them. I've concluded that I'm not saying a word until I have an offer. If they rescind it, I will at least feel better knowing I tried the best I could. Thanks to this forum, I have applied to dialysis, corrections, corizon, and psych positions because of your great suggestions. I would enjoy any of them. I hope I will find something soon.

License long??? As long as you hold a license, you'll be under monitoring? How is that even possible? I just can't fathom that. I'd be working at Walmart if I had no end in sight to my monitoring! What state are you in? How can they justify that?

"They" don't have to justify anything. My nursing career was destroyed even AFTER I completed six years of monitoring because I have a permanent black mark on my license. Employers with decent jobs want no part of "my kind."

If I had to do it over, I would have gone into another line of work. Nursing is brutal to anyone deemed "less than," even though I have been clean since 2004.

I've heard that Mississippi is license-long.

Catmom, Oh my GOD!!! You mean you will always be under a monitoring contract? The meetings, pee tests and all the other intrusive stuff forever??? That is horrible. I'm in Pennsylvania and will wind up serving about 4 years in purgatory. I can't imagine it. I'm with Recovery & would be wearing the blue Wally World jacket. Plus you have been clean for 14 years. WOW I'm so sorry. Nurses can be truly horrible to one another. I don't think I'll ever catch a plane that even flies over your state. What Jerks!!!

I'm in Florida. I was diagnosed bipolar 1. That is automatic license-long...forever. They do review your case every 5 years. Whoo hoo. I don't know how they justify that, honestly. So far I have not come across any other nurse with my contract. They all have 3 or 5 years at the most. Im medically cleared with no accommodations or restrictions. I decided not to tell employers until I have an offer. In Florida people don't appreciate honesty. No one trusts one another and are apprehensive or everybody. Florida is so backwards that I have to make up lies to get a job. I don't think that makes much sense, but here I am!
