Finally recieved received more communication

Nurses Recovery

I am beyond frustrated at this system. I finally received a phone call from Ms. Monitoring the end of March. I told her I was willing to do an evaluation and participate in the monitoring program. Whatever it takes to have a clean license. She said she was waiting on her superior to return to work the following week and I would hear back from her. Over a month has passed and I haven't been pushing phone calls as I was afraid I'd find myself in a 4 day eval during my graduation this week. Today I finally receive a phone call from the disciplinary side saying they have received my case because I have refused evaluation. I'm livid. I told him about said communication with the monitoring side of things. He is supposed to call me back. I am about ready to just take the mark on my brand new license and move on with my life. But, I think if I were to do that I would still find myself in a program that takes my money for 5 years??

Don't do it! Do you have any email documentation? Write down the days you made the phone calls and all that was said. Super sorry to hear all this.

I have documented phone calls, but there hasnt been email communication. I wish i could have afforded legal counsel because this is all nuts. You cant make this **** up. This only makes me more fearful that out of eval they are going to dangle my license behind going into treatment. I don't kniw how you all keep your sanity in dealing with these forces. I haven't even found myself in it and have swapped to alcohol free mouth wash and baked a cake this weekend and feared putting ****** vanilla in the icing. Sorry for the rant. Let you know what happens next :(

Nurse Girlie:

First let me say I'm so sorry for all the problems you are facing. At the very least you should have been given the opportunity to complete the non-disciplinary program and given the opportunity for a career without a permanent mark on your record. Again I'm sorry.

It seems to me that if you are going to salvage your career you have to do two things now. First, you must comply rigorously with all the horrid terms and conditions of this program no matter how intrusive or asinine the requirements are. Second you need to start a paper-trail of proving that you did not refuse anything. Get a copy of your phone records and write everybody a letter / email that you tried to comply with the phone records attached. This probably won't work but at least you will have a record of the attempt. At some point (now if at all possible) you are going to need representation by a lawyer and request a hearing in front of the board and if necessary initiate due process to clear this mark off your record. None of this is easy or cheap but its the only way I see you coming out of this without your career being impinged from the start. You have my hopes and prayers. Good Luck!!!

"They" avoid written documentation at all costs. They do everything by phone call, unless you are being sent a document of specific guidelines to follow and an expiration date. And you can't record them without their permission... So, it makes information gathering hard. Document everything... Many universities will not accept a nurse with an encumbered license.

It is very frustrating. I put all of my correspondence to them in writing, even if they respond back to me only via phone. This puts a date and a time on my actions. Don't take the easy way out, it won't end up being easy in the long run.

From about year 2 or so onward (right about when I figured out these people were not to be trusted) I started keeping a log of EVERY interaction. I have every scrap of paper and a printout of every email from Affinity. If we have a phone call, I take notes then immediately transcribe the call (I said, she said, etc.) to the best of my memory and if need be, email that transcription to them via Affinity. That way they know I have a written record. Dates, times, etc. Sorry to say but I don't think one can be paranoid enough with these people.

Can't agree enough and will do. I emailed the Disciplinary guy this morning because I never heard back. I forwarded emails (where I was stuck in limbo after reapplying March 5th- was told they were waiting on my transcripts-told them they had been sent in- was directed to email yet another person and I did and had expressed a willingness to do evaluation and monitoring) and included the dates and times I tried contacting Ms. Monitoring since reapplying. And again said that I was told she would be contacting me after HER superior returned to work the following week. He said he had a meeting with her and a board attorney yesterday and he was told I was given a TIMELINE and that I never followed through!! No. I was told I'd hear back from her and sort of expected something by snail mail directing me on how to proceed. He asked if I went for an evaluation. Why on Earth would I have done that without their communication/direction or approval?? I told him I had no reason to lie about all of this and he agreed and said he would again, call me back. Why would Board members say they gave me a deadline when they didn't?? This is insane and smells like a recipe for sabotage! How heartless and corrupt.

It's hard to tell if this is some sort of conspiracy (I don't doubt this at all) to punish you more or simple incompetence and callousness. So these folks are either evil or just dumb and uncaring. Neither one paints a fantastic picture of the Nazis we must entrust our professional lives to. Yuck!!!

Alex, I'll take dumb, uncaring and incompetent for $500 and somebody trying to do some major CYAing for the daily double.

Ha!!! Probably

They don't have anything to lose. I am trying very hard to be diplomatic when writing this and I'm going to go out on a limb and say they just don't care. Why would they? There are plenty of nurses, who would miss us? If we don't document everything what happens? Nothing for them... There's one less of us on their caseload to worry about. They still get paid.

The onus of everything is on us. We must be relentless. If I don't hear back, I push redial. If I don't receive a response, I send that same message so many times that it makes them lose their minds. Because in a pinch, if they try and claim I'm not compliant I can pull that Affinity message log.

I had to do the same thing with the board. I needed a refresher course, I could not find a hospital that would take me. After countless phone calls, applications, visits, you name it, this mean ole bat at the board told me it didn't look like I was trying to prove to the board that I was serious. WHAT?!

Let me tell you... If they had no prior personal experience with OCD before, they knew all about it by the time I got done. I was cc people in emails that weren't even there anymore. I got random names from the FBON on the internet and wrote them. Finally, a lady dropped a name just to shut me up. I got right in that hospital.

You can do this... Don't let up on them, spread your particular brand of sunshine all over them.

Perse,

Unleashing a full-blown OCD Nurse on anything can be a fate worse then death. Perhaps even worse than a greedy lawyer or a scorned woman (painful personal experience talking on this one). I hope you sink your teeth into them. I'm with you lady. Good Luck to you!!!
