Is there any filipino nurses here recieved ATT from Ca BON for nclex??

World Registration

Hi. I have been reading all the threads about taking NCLEX for Ca-BON and I have read that almost everyone are denied in their eligibility since the concurrency started. I am a registered nurse in the philippines. Im currently living in guam and were planning to move in california next year so im planning to take the NCLEX under Ca-BON. Im getting really hopeless about this career while reading all the threads. Please reply. Thank you!

There have been a few lucky ones that have posted they had no problems in getting their ATT and even passing the NCLEX-RN but that's really more the exception rather than the rule. There's been at least over 7,500 stranded PH applicants alone in CA, but that was from back over a year ago and with the yearly new applicants, I conservatively put that number to over 10,000 easily today.

With the glut of new grad and experienced nurses in CA and the job shortage (not the mythical nursing shortage), one can say that the CA BRN is under zero pressure at all to lessen the strict enforcement anytime soon for the next decade or more (as more and more US educated nurses come on stream annually) and this includes the predicted numbers of thousands upon thousands of US retiring nurses.

Added to the fact of the recent findings and jailing of PH nurses submitting fraudulent paperwork, it's also put the CA BRN evaluators job on the line as well if they grant the ATT in error or get lazy and a greedy cheating nurse gets thru the system. By the way, if they do get their RN license, they would have also potentially "stolen" that job that rightfully belongs to you or another deserving nurse who played the game honestly and really worked hard to get here.

But all is not lost if you're strongly determined and have some deep pockets or other ways to finance the possibility of getting enrolled in a school offering the deficiency courses, it's possible and a few have posted here and got the license.

It will also depend on when you graduated from the Phils? I take it you already have a current PH nursing license and either a work visa or valid work authorized SS# (both CA BRN requirements).

Unless it's necessary to move to CA, I would immediately start the NCLEX process for CA and see if you qualify to meet the requirements so that you don't end up finding that your transcripts are flawed and need to re-take certain courses and end up without a license for sometime and unable to even start looking for a nursing job.

You don't need to physically be in CA to take the NCLEX, as it can be taken in the Phils, London, Japan, UK or any place that's NCLEX approved. Since the actual exam is of a national format, it's all the same exact one that anyone takes and there's no advantage or disadvantage to take it in the States or out of the country testing center. The person next to you and the person next to the other and so on, will all have a completely different set of questions.

You just need to get the approval from the CA BRN and you might want to see if there's a NCLEX testing center in Guam. Save yourself some money and time.

Just know that with the majority of state BON's, any and all application fees are not refundable, whether your application is approved or declined for whatever reasons.

So sad. so if they require me to have my classes with MS & OB schooling would take one semester or more? And also do I have to be on california for schooling or anyschool is accepted as long as its in USA/State? You have some ideas with this as well? IsThank you so much for ur reply it means so much to me.

What year did you graduate as there could be an exception to the concurrency status?

But if you know for sure that you took all your clinicals and classroom studies in the exact same month together, not 1-2 weeks before or after the classroom started or ended and not 1-2 years after, then you might be okay and meet the concurrency rules.

However, until you submit and get your transcripts evaluated, it will be the only and decisive decision to determine whether or not, you will qualify to take the ATT or be asked to take the minimum two deficient courses, but they have been some that were found to have been deficient in four (4) courses! Or some were denied due to insufficient clinical hours.

Yes, it's possible to take the deficient courses in another state as long as you have the approval of your CA BRN evaluator and it's up to you to make sure that the out of state school meets the CA BRN requirements or you'll be wasting your time and money and still end up with no ATT. There have been a few who went this route and got approved recently.

You can blame the CHED, PRC and PNA for putting all the PH students and nurses for this big fiasco mess and disappointment. They have known of these issues for many years prior and simply chose to ignore the CA BRN policy which was written since 1987.

The rules were relaxed during the big "nursing shortage", but that's not going to happen in quite a while now, given the larger numbers of qualified US nurses and new grads from all over the states.

Too bad. I graduated last 2007. So I guess I will be affected with it. Anyway I still have to try applying with CA BRN and get denied before I can go on with the subjects theyre requiring. Too bad. This nursing dream is so complicated nowadays. :( thank youfor ur reply. God bless!

Yes, that's all you can do for now. You never know you might get lucky, but for those in your situation, make sure you have some kind of Plan B,C,D...Z back up. CA has basically closed the door for the majority wishing to work and practice here, that's the harsh reality.
