NCLEX nerves

Hey guys,

I am a nurse from Brazil moved to the New York and recently took and passed the NCLEX. Before taking I read a lot of forums about the nerves and uncertainty that comes before the test, and reading through some of your posts helped a lot.

I would like to put it out there that I went through the whole process of having my international degree translated and verified and it can be very difficult and stressful, and so I'd like to offer help to anybody else going through that as well!

You guys helped me and I'd like to return the favor, so if anybody out there is going through that same process and needs advice or help with anything feel free to message!

I am international nurse too. My nclex exam 2 wk from now, freezing out. How was the exam? Did u find it difficult?

I freaked out too, haha. I started studying for about one year before the exam to get myself used to the style of questions and the timing, I took the Kaplan prep course and found it to be incredibly helpful and I think the main reason I was able to pass the test. It was difficult and nerve wrecking and scary and even walking out I thought that there was no way that I had passed. Study hard, make sure you are as calm as possible and just focus on the questions and I think you should be ok. Good luck!

I am a nurse from Brazil too. I came to US to be with my husband on a dependent (H4) visa. I would like to take NCLEX-RN too and I am new to all this. I have a BSN from Brazil (UFC, Fortaleza). Could you please tell me what steps are required? And what agencies did you use to translate and verify the degree?

Hello Nara!

Well, your process may be a little different than mine because you are here on a visa so you will most likely go through the visa screen process of CGFNS. When I went through it these are the steps I took: first of all, you need to be registered in Brazil with your state board. Next, contact World Educational Services and have them do the first translation of your education. After you receive that, get in contact with CGFNS and have them begin the process for whichever state you live in, or in your case through the visa screen process. I happen to live in New York and they have a specific set of requirements so it was its own evaluation, but I believe all the other states conform to the same standards. Once CGFNS has approved your education, they will send their report to your US state boards, the boards will approve you to sit for the test, you take it and hope you pass! Check the state BON to what is required as it does vary depending on which state. Then you will have to find a employer willing to go either the H1b route Which unless not affected by the cap can not be applied for until next april with Oct start or immigrant visa which will take a few years waiting as it depends on country of birth to how long it takes

I give the international candidates a ton of respect. The test is difficult as it is let alone having to take it in a second language. Congratulations on passing and to those preparing, keep studying hard and all will fall into place.
