Nclex license endorsement

World Registration

Published

Hi. I am an nclex passer 2008. I initially registered to California but when they required me to provide ssn no. Upon renewal i endorsed my license to vermont. The problem is vermont will also require ssn next year. I was wondering if there are other states which i can endorse my license and would not require an ssn no? Pls help

What is your concern about providing the Social Security number? All the info you provide to ANY State is required to be truthful....?

They likely are not in the USA and thus not eligible for a SSN. Be aware that the SSN is a federal mandate slowly being implemented by states. All states are officially required to only issue professional licenses to those eligible to work in the US whether by citizenship, permanent residency , or authorized work visa as evidenced by valid SSN

You may wish to call or e-mail the VT BON directly, as I believe that a SS# has been enforced since May, 2012.

If that's the case, I'm not sure how you can go about endorsing the license to another state that doesn't require a SS# (via endorsement versus as a first-time applicant), that's why you should get a more clear answer from the BON itself.

Please do report back your findings so that many others in your shoes can benefit from this issue.

Yes, i am from Phippines. I may not obtain an SSN no. yet because I still do not have a visa in the US, but still I wish to 'preserve' my USRN License for as long as I can that is why i am looking for US states that I can endorse my license to. If SSN is required to all of the states then its bad news for me:(

Perhaps look into placing your license on inactive status until your priority date is current and you are visa eligible. All states have some form of inactive status , though the process differs for each state. Sometimes the information is on the BoN website, other times you need to contact the BoN directly.

You need to check also that whatever state allows the endorsement without the SS# (meeting you will also have submit new school transcripts and new non-refundable fees and possibly pass certain English proficiency test just as applying for the first-time) that you don't exceed the time limitation from the license issuance month and year to avoid having to re-take the NCLEX-RN over again.

Or must have started their US working nursing practice within so many years (each state is different) to avoid the re-take or possible extra schooling (new 2 year nursing program) or refresher courses.

The answer to your concern is however, you need to finalize whatever state you wish to grow your family, move your parents, plant your roots and totally focus on that state and if that means you need a SS# or working visa, then that's where you need to go after, no matter the troubles.

Yes, there are some CAUTIONS more so now, with the SS# requirements and or providing the local country's nursing license and or more restrictive educational standards, in which it's not possible to even apply for the lack of (SS#, no Phils license, unacceptable school transcripts etc). As evidenced in CA, with the thousands upon thousands of PH grads and nurses unable to get their ATT or get endorsed, obviously, one must simply move on and drop CA as their primary desired state. Unless one can comply with their requirements.

As we read of so many others, going to get licensed in one state that was never their intentions, only to find at the end of the day, they find out they wasted time (years) and lots of money and may end up with less than they thought or simply just so near impossible.

Everyone going after the "fastest, cheapest and easiest" state usually ends up in being the "slowest, expensive and hardest" way to go.

Lastly, I'm not sure if you have a license to endorse, meaning without the SS#, VT hasn't truly issued you "the license" (even after the renewal), I may be incorrect so again that's why it's best to ask the VT BON themselves. It's like you want to endorse to the Moon, but as far as the VT BON is concerned, the license is somewhat incomplete in that, there's no license to be had (to be released) without the SS#......ask the VT BON as they will also see your name on their file.

Good luck!

Hi babycassie! Have you solved your problem? I would like to know how you did it. We have the same concerns. Thanks.
