Local Boards

Hi Everyone,

A quick question. I am an American Citizen who got a quick BSN nursing degree here in the Philippines. I plan on getting my license in New Jersey. Do I have to take the local Philippine board before I am allowed to take the NCLEX? I don't know if I can take the local board since I don't have Filipino citizenship.

1.) Is a local licence a MUST for the New Jersey board of nursing for foreign educated

nurses? Can I have it wavered?

Please let me know, other New Jersey people out there! Please HELP! Need advice.

Thanks so much.

It's funny you described how quick you got a BSN in the Philippines like it's a Bachelor's, it's not that quick to get one.

Anyway. First off, you need to CHECK IT OUT WITH THE PRC if you'd be allowed to take the NLE which is the licensing body in the Philippines.

Second, have you checked the NEW JERSEY BOARD OF NURSING YET? I'm pretty sure if they require local licensure from the country where you got your nursing degree, it would be there on their website particularly on the internationally educated nurses section.

I know you can waive local licensure with New York and Texas. Whatever you found out about New Jersey, please tell us.
